Magma Trench

Under The Everstorm Sea lies a small "inland" community of tritons in a village upon the sea floor. The Magma Trench is 8 miles southwest of Keilar's Cove and is home to a community of skilled smiths. The village itself is built upon a series of coral reefs east of the descent and semi-surrounded by a large kelp forest.  The tritons, relying on daylight and moonlight to see, live in the first 0-600 ft from the surface.  All manner of creatures are attracted to the magic of the location from small schools of fish to giant crabs.  The richness of the environment allows the people to be self sufficient through skill and craft with the food and natural resources.
The tritons of this community worship Thalassa, a minor deity of nature, seasons, and cycles. The tritons are balanced between the depths of their existence and the heat of their craft. A prophecy is handed down among the peoples that puts the people as a barrier between the sapience of the prime material and a malice of elemental chaos beyond: Triton Prophecy of the Magma Trench

The Triton Community

The concept of “family” doesn’t exist within this community. They are more communal.  Tritons have an irregular reproductive cycle that skips many years. It is not clear what triggers the start of a reproduction cycle but it usually happens every 10-15 years.  At the peak of the cycle, there is a communal ceremony of sorts.  Most males express a few small offspring. These offspring swim around the birth waters and pick a suitable female to grow with.  The community expects all females that are chosen by an offspring to take care of it. They are not “mother” by blood like for humans, but rather are caretakers. Upbringing an offspring that has chosen you is a community duty.
All the offspring of a given cycle are born with a “generational” color. This color is thought to be influenced by the conditions of the trigger for the reproductive cycle.  Despite having a core color that dominates the generation, the unique patterns that highlight individuals are reflections of their sire's generational color.  The recent colors of the later Age of Community are as follows: Brass (812 AC)
Bronze (819 AC)
Cherry (830 AC)
Blood (838 AC)
Deep Green (848 AC)
Caramel (860 AC)
Fuchsia (872 AC)
Silver (888 AC)
Gold (897 AC)
Lime (910 AC)
Almond (922 AC)
Burnt red (934 AC)
Cyan (948 AC)
Coral (960 AC)
Lavender (974 AC)
Mint (986 AC)
Turquoise (1001 AC)
Dandelion (1016 AC)

Industry & Trade

Their forges are operated within a trench of the sea floor. The trench itself is predominantly frozen magma with veins of amberlike material that bubbles with the steam. A unique metal known as Sea Steel is produced by combining the superheated excreted minerals and with other ingredients under the skilled hands of a forgemaster. This green-hued metal is highly resistant to corrosion. Sea Steel is rare due to it's limited production and highly valued by mariner peoples who know of it.

Architecture

The dwellings of the village are carved through the dead corals and pockets frozen magma. To land dwellers, the "roofs" are an odd sight; they seem to be all "pierced" in a honeycomb structure. To the inhabitants, the holes are necessary for light.
Attribution:  Large portions of the Magma Trench and it's triton people were developed by Corali of Hidden Waters.  I am thankful for the player's contributions to my world.  It is fuller for it.
