Malkor
In the true Neutral zone, the realm through which each of the other eight realms interact with each other, is Malkor. Many mysterious energies and forces converge on this plane, and the sentient mortals of the multiverse are populous here; Often, they live out their life on this world, and for a select number of individuals and races, they ascend to another plane.
Many, many conflicts and alliances have weaved numerous, countless numbers of magic, enchantment and other forms of outside influence upon the world, and before a time when Malkor was sealed off from the other worlds, it was considered the neutral battleground upon which battles were fought.
Eventually, after countless battles, the gods saw what they had done to the world, and they realized their error. Malkor's survival proved quintessential to the balance of the multiverse, and the gods agreed upon creating a barrier which would completely block direct interference with the world, though a god could still communicate and act indirectly through mortal liaisons.
Very recently, an arrogant high elf's actions have caused the barrier to crumble, and the gods once again find themselves able to directly interfere with the world.
