The Isle of Gold Settlement in Malkavia | World Anvil

The Isle of Gold

"Honour, pride, and the best damned mead in the Strand!"

-Kalthor the Inebriated

Demographics

The Isle of Gold is predominantly Half-Orcs and Elves who have found a way to co-exist peacefully and prosperously. There are other races on the island as well, but they are few and far between. That said, so long as they are able to prove their worth, they are accepted into the crew.

Government

The Isle of Gold has no defined government. Pirate Lord Thane and his Ulfsark Warriors practice judgement when they see fit, and when it is required, it is brutal. That said, due to this iron law, crime in the Isle of Gold is kept to a minimum.

Defences

A Mott and Bailey fort stands tall above the landscape in the Isle of Gold, and provides the primary means of defense against any incursions. While the doors are normally wide open for the transport of merchant wagons and civilians, in more dangerous times these gates can be locked up tight.

Industry & Trade

The Isle of Gold deals in grains, livestock, and relics found among the ruins to the West. There are also many areas for bee-keeping, and the mead produced on this island is known throughout the world of Malkavia. Coastal raiding also provides gold, relics, and manpower, however the Isle of Gold is against slaving. If the indentured workers are able to prove their worth, they are freed to become a part of the crew.

Assets

The ruins to the West are filled with relics from a forgotten age. Dangerous but profitable to those who are wary enough of the risks, the Isle of Gold is well named.

History

The Isle of Gold is home to one of the older pirate lord abodes. Created many generations ago when an enterprising young half elf sought adventure away from his life in the Woods of Drumindor in Altevia, the Isle of Gold still carries many of the original aesthetics of the home of this legendary figure. While his name has been lost to history, the honorific, Thane, is passed down to the current pirate lord who rules the islands as soon as they take control.

Architecture

Log cabins dominate the area on the Isle of Gold, looking extremely out of place in the surrounding jungle. Seedlings from some of the great pine trees that dominated the homeland of the original founder have been cultivated over time, and are used for shipbuilding as well as the housing. Pennants wave upon the wind, and carved wood depicting various sea creatures and serpents are commonplace on the tops of houses.
