The Stopped Clock

The Stopped Clock is a galleon ship that is part of the fleet under command of the Sisters of the Sea.

Description

At a first glance the Stopped Clock is an unassuming merchant cargo ship from the Maracia Trade Alliance. Crafted of mahogany with gold painted banisters, it was taken from Maracia and renamed, but never given a new appearance. With the main sail sporting red stripes down the canvas, everything is well cared for and the same as it was. There are two levels on the ship specifically dedicated to artillery, with five ballista on each side and one above deck at the bow and one at the aft behind the helm. A three mast ship, it is remarkably fast for its size. Below decks is a vast area for cargo and even enough space for rooms that house four members of the crew each. The figurehead is of a beauteous harpy with the wings fanned over her head. The one thing that makes the ship stand out is the flag that gets flown after a fight gets initiated. A pirate flag, bearing the triple moon design all Sisters of the Sea ships have, and making up part of the design of an hourglass on its side.

Locations

Primarily sailing along Maracia trade routes the ship is most commonly seen in the north and central parts of the ocean. Like all Sisters of the Sea vessels, its home port is in Raider's Rest

  • Vilni Blythe: First captain of the ship under the command of the Sisters of the Sea

History

When it was first sailing the seas, the ship was originally known as the 'Fairbreeze'. As a ship for Maracia's diplomatic trade agreements, it was always a prime target for pirates on the seas. Despite this, it was a powerhouse that was known for defending against several vessels at once. There would come a day when a Gunbatsu Pirate fleet would overtake the vessel and capture much of the non combatant crew. Among them was a scullery maid named Vilni Blythe. The half elf was not particularily well thought of with her initial crew, due to being of mixed race, but after being captured they came to respect her. Standing up to the hobgoblin pirates, she would actively break free and steal food and weapons for those that were in the brig with her. In her defiance, she was eventually caught and beaten before being thrown back into a cell, but not seeing her as a warrior, the hobgoblins would not demand her death. This would prove to be their own undoing, as her bravery became infectious with the other prisoners. Using the tools and weapons provided, they too broke out of their cells and overtook the ship from within. Still leading, despite her injuries, Vilni then had the small group fire the artillery upon the other ships surrounding them, causing enough damage for them to escape with their ship.   Their misfortune was not over though, as word had reached Maracia that pirates had taken the ship as their own. When the crew sailed towards home, it was set upon by the other ships and city defenses. Barely managing to break away before being overtaken and limping away, the crew knew there was nowhere they could go without being attacked. Maracia did not take the loss of their ships lightly, and no doubt believed it impossible for the cleaning maids and cooks to reclaim the ship. Adrift with supplies dwindling, Vilni's resentment for their home country only deepened, as they couldn't even fly the white flag to approach any civilized port. When the flagship of the Sisters of the Sea came across them, still bearing the white flag, they boarded and offered to take ship and crew into their fleet. The crew rejected the idea at first, not wanting to relinquish their ship. When it became clear that those already on the crew would get to stay and that they were allowed to select their own captain from within their ranks, It was Vilni who said they should take the offer, and the crew who said she should lead. The ship would be renamed 'The Stopped Clock' from that point forward.
