A
planar flux is what is often considered a surge of energy from another plane of existence. Due to Malgrave's positioning, it is at a major intersection of most planes of existence and was at one time in a state of near constant bombardment from these planes.
Crossing Leylines
Malgrave is a place where the leylines between planes converge temporarily. This material plane of existence was in fact formed by the colliding of energy from two or more planes and has collected more and more as it has been bombarded. This most often happens because something is crossing from one plane to the next. Such occurances can be a wizard calling a fireball from the plane of fire or other such spells from their respective planes, a soul crossing from the material plane to their afterlife, or even when a natural disaster occurs in one world, causing the elements to be drawn back into their plane of origin. These examples would be along the lines of an earthquake, tornado or tsunami.
When such things happen and the energies are brought across the leylines, these powers often crash into or around Malrgrave. It often results in similar natural disasters on a much grander scale than many other realities are used to.
Effects
Beyond the obvious destructive side effects, Malgrave is so thoroughly consumed by the flow of magic and energy that it has an altering effect on the people that live there as well. It is not uncommon for a sudden increase in births of genasi shortly after a planar flux. There are also a large amount of elemental and extraplanar creatures that roam Malgrave as well, often dumped off accidentally on their travels.
It also has the side effect of making the people of Malgrave harder to analyze for those from another plane. Many people have enhanced strength that is hidden by an unassuming physique. Many have heightened mental abilities as well, going well beyond the average or even against a creature's natural development. Every inhabitant of Malgrave is also capable of magic. Some are natural, some have to learn, but all are able to tap into the forces that flow through them and their world.
History
During the forming of Malgrave up through the
Reclamation War there was a constant shift of land and sea, constantly rained down upon by fire and unforgiving winds. Spirits of the dead from all across the Astral Sea and even living beings would sometimes end up on Malgrave. This made survival for mortals extemely short lived, shortened further by the constant Rifts opening to the Nine Hells, the Abyss, the Feywild, the Shadowfell and the Celestial Heavans. Creatures from all of these planes fought for control over Malgrave at its forming until a truce was made and the
Ceresc Seal was made and placed at Malgrave's core. The seal would stabalize the plane and mitigate how much damage other planes would leave as they passed through and around to their intended destination on the leylines.
