Ymmari Empire

Over 2500 years ago, the Ymmari (yeh-MAR-ee) Dragonborn conquered the other humanoid and demi-human races and created an empire that spanned the entire continent of Grand Ymmarion. They built great cities, made arcane and technological advancements, and prospered for centuries. Through innovation, appropriation, and dissemination, the Ymmari helped push the young world and its cultures into a new era.
All was not happy under Ymmari rule, far from it in many cases. As conquerors, the Ymmari often held themselves as superior to the other races and were frequently despotic rulers, finding little wrong with enslaving the "weaker" races and forcing the will of the Empire upon them.
The Ymmari Empire eventually fell just over 1300 years ago, when the human, demi-human and humanoid races, long under the sway of the Ymmari, revolted against the masters in a series of rebellions known as Grand Uprising.  Largely led by human beings in the Eastern Peninsula and hobgoblins in the West, the Grand Uprising saw over three decades of violence and millions of deaths as the myriad races of Grand Ymmarion banded together and slowly took back their freedom.
After the fall of the Ymmari capital of Grand Zenith, the Ymmari were hunted for years in an action known as the Purge Draconis . Spearheaded again by the humans and hobgoblins, this genocidal act saw almost the complete annihilation of the Ymmari race. For nearly 70 years the dragonborn were persecuted, forced into labor camps, and executed en masse. As time wore on, zeal for the Purge lost momentum and, in tandem with a number of heroic actions from Ymmari prisoners, it was ended. Still spurned and reviled by most of the world, the Ymmari were banished to a small chain of islands in what is today known as the Sea of Tempests.
