Slagemon

The God of earth and of fire, Slagemon is the brother of Hysterion  and is also known as the flame-lord and the earth-father. Although he doesn’t have nearly the number of followers as Mal-Torak and Hysterion, they are no less devout in their practices. They typically tend to be practical and grounded members of society who don’t mind putting forth the effort or getting a little dirty to get things done. Slagemon is also the God of Vengeance, so it can be perilous to cross his followers. They can be as stoic as the rocks themselves or let loose passions akin to raging wildfires. At their best, worshippers of Slagemon are warm, friendly individuals who always have a spot next to their hearth for those in need. At their worst, they can be pyromaniacs. Many depictions of Slagemon see him as a shorter, bald, thickly muscled humanoid seemingly carved out of dark brown or black obsidian. One of his arms is frequently depicted as being metallic in nature. Thin wisps of flame seem to always encircle and writhe around his form and his eyes gleam sharply of white hot* flame. The Holy Text of Slagemon is The Craft of Slagemon which is split into two separate volumes: The Purity of Flame, and The Divinity of Stone. As with all gods of the Malatorian pantheon, Slagemon’s followers do not hold to simply one aspect of their lord when choosing iconographic symbols to represent him. Standards borne under the cause of Slagemon often depict a mountain with a half circle of flame atop its summit but anything dealing with earth and fire can probably be recognized as representative of his might. Most of Slagemonic iconography is created in a brown/red color scheme. Holy symbols of Slagemon are typically hollow metal balls at the end of a chain, specially forged by a priest of Slagemon and filled with the dirt of the devotee’s homeland. These metal balls are usually worn around the neck or waist of the follower but do not need to meet any specific requirements in terms of size, weight, or color, only that they be constructed by an ordained priest. Slagemon’s chief holidays, the “Hearth-erin” and “Earthern-morn” occur respectively at the first frost of winter (when heating the home with fire becomes priority again) and at the first thaw of spring (when the earth is wakened from the cold slumber of winter). These festivals are typically marked with feasting, dancing, rock throwing contests, etc. and the burning of effigies. Also important for the most devout is the “Rite of Immoll” a three day ordeal in which the follower constructs a type of vented tunnel into the shallows of the earth and using a combination of hot coals and special incense, seek to purify themselves through fasting and heat induced meditation. Paladins of Slagemon are rare, although not unheard of and can usually be identified by a specialized gauntlet that they wear called an “igenean brace”. This large gauntlet, which represents the one metallic arm of Slagemon, typically runs the length of the followers arm and is inlaid with a variety of metals and stones that are found in the follower’s homeland. Although most paladins wear this brace, it is not specific to their class. Some priests of Slagemon who have found themselves in constant combat have crafted their own braces to help them better serve their lord. Many Paladins of Slagemon also use large mauls to crush the enemies of their faith. These mauls, like their ignean braces, are also typically inlaid with rocks, gems and metals of their homeland. Besides mauls, they have also been known to use warhammers and longswords. *white hot – in the words of a certain babysitter “hotter than red hot”
