Blightstone Orb

Blightstone Orbs are magical orbs utilized by the Ymmari Empire to focus and generate magical negative energy required in necromantic spells and rituals.
Blightstone Orbs are crafted from a unique ore found only in the Shadowfell. This extra planar tie causes a strange synergy within the orbs. If a significant amount of magical energy is used on a particular orb it can cause arcane reactions and magical reverberations within other orbs on the same plane of existence, no matter the distance between them.
Active Blightstone orbs often radiate and pulse with negatively charged necromantic energy.  If left unchecked this negavtive charge will continue to grow, eventually releasing a pulse of necromantic magic.  This pulse can manifest in different ways.  Sometimes an overcharged orb will release a blast of energy that withers all nearby life, othertimes it spawns a creature from the Shadowfell (a shadow or wraith for example), othertimes it might interact with nearby corpses, reanimating them back to an undead existence.
There are two known ways to deactivate a charged orb. If enough postively charged, radiant energy is focused on the orb it can neutralize the orb's negative charge.  Alternatively, necromantic spells can also draw energy from a charged orb.  Necromantic spells cast within proximity of a charged orb utilize the negative energy of an orb to augment and empower their effects, but essentialy draw the resource from the orb, weakening its power until the charge can be built up again or deactivating it altogether.
