The Inleyan Continent

The largest continent of Malar is so named because of the empire that calls the continent home. There are in fact two factions that struggle in a long standing and seemingly endless war. With two swathes of unclaimed land that also lie largely unexplored. The Inleyan empire struggles for expansion yet is caught between the Unconquered South whose devotion's to their causes will never allow them to relent and the Unexplored North where it is not soldiers but nature that is there enemy. Then there is the stain on Inley the Steel Consortium, an expanse of desert where only the brave, the mad, and the desperate will go.

Geography

The northern areas of the continent are mostly an arctic area where in the summer months it is still fairly cold, and in winter it is deadly in most areas. This climate along with a hostile population of wildlife has killed many of the surveyors who have attempted to map the area. Local peoples have either killed or incorporated those surveyors who did not die. The central area features a variety of disparate landscapes including lush jungles and forests, scorching deserts, and tall looming mountains. The southernmost region bares the tallest mountain range on the continent that have lush rolling hills to the east and west to the coast.

Fauna & Flora

Not much is known generally about the flora and fauna in the north other than it is most likely dangerous. Across central inley the flora and fauna population is fairly standard with the exception of what is found in the steel consortium. Due to the magic within the consortium most animals are unable to survive and those that do are grossly and hideously mutated. The consortium also lacks flora of any kind. The flora and fauna is strange most of the time, due to being seabed that was then rapidly pushed onto dryland made for a salt mineral and nutrient content that produced interesting results.

Natural Resources

There are two resources that can be found on the continent which are difficult if not impossible to find elsewhere. Consortium steel and Dragon leather. Consortium steel comes from the Steel Consortium and is how the material gained its name. It is a majority iron or completely iron material suffused with the magic of the steel consortium. In the case of weapons forged with this material if they do 25 damage to a spell caster then they cannot cast spells for a day. In the case of full plate armor forged with this material you become immune to most forms of magical damage. Some examples would be you cannot be harmed by a fireball spell and cannot take damage from magic missile, though an object thrown by the catapult spell will still do damage.
In the case of dragon leather, metallic dragons are able to get along and exist within a nation's borders without causing trouble. As such metallic dragons in Inley a granted a form of citizenship. Dragon's being reptiles also naturally shed many dragons sell this shed skin which is then treated and turned into a form of leather. While wearing a piece of clothing made of dragon leather you gain resistance to the same type of damage as that dragon.

History

Shortly after the fall of the giant and dragon empires dozens if not hundreds of kingdoms attempted to rise most fell to history eventually. Three thousand years ago a great earthquake raised a significant portion of the seabed up above the water, also creating the tallest mountain range. This also brought the capital of the triton nation of Carmadec onto land. The most notable of the nations that withstood time are the goblinoid empire of Calonne (fell in a massive slave uprising), The Inleyan empire (not yet fallen), and the above mentioned Kingdom of Carmadec (may fall to the Inleyan empire).

Tourism

Most of the tourism does go to the Inleyan empire, it is mostly internal tourism. As the cost of coming from the divided continent to Inley is immense and it is difficult for a variety of reasons.
