Egimiyida

Egimiyida is a metropolis spread out around the imperial palace and the old quarter, now exclusively inhabited by the local nobility and foreign officials. The immediate surroundings of the old quarter are home to many large corporations' headquarters (both imperial and foreign ones) and have recently seen many aesthetical and cultural developments to attract tourists, who had the habit to crowd the old quarter to the detriment of its influential locals.
Egimiyida is cut in half by the Yatleye river, its southern side, where the palace lies, is populated mostly by non-humans and host administrative institutions, civilian spaceports and spread out low-density residential structures. The northern side, with its majority of human citizens, is the former industrial center of the city; over the last few centuries, a lot of industries have moved away, closer to production areas and farther from the ever-growing suburbs, but the poorer part of Egimiyida still contain a number of highly automated foundries and textile manufactures and the noisy high-traffic spaceports and urban transport systems used to export their production and imports the various goods needed by the local population.

Demographics

Nzeda are the main species in Egimiyida, representing a bit over half the local population. They are spread between all socio-economic classes but are of course the only one represented amongst the nobles and less than a quarter of the poorest.
All other makathian species are present in the city, humans being the most numerous and more than a third of the locals. More exotic species are not the rarest sight in Egimiyida but are rarely permanent citizens, most of those who could move are rebuted by the legal obstacles and tend to stay home.

Industry & Trade

Egimiyida is the most important trade hub on Adi-Makaitsh, its spaceports are busy all day long, full of ships transporting the various foods, luxuries and construction materials such a metropolis require on a daily basis and exporting the important local production of steel and electronics required by the orbital shipyards around the planet. The local demand for consumption products is enhanced by the somptuary expenses which come with gathering such an amount of wealthy and politically influent individuals in the same place.
Being the siege of the imperial government and its administration, Egimiyida also receive sizeable investments directly from the throne.

History

Egimiyida, the landing point, first settlement founded by the Neo-makathian empire after the cataclysm, the death of Makaith. When the first spaceships landed on the planet that would soon be called Adi-Makaitsh, the nzeda were broken, having no choice but to settle there after leaving their former homeworld; the warm climate of the region, especially compared to the glacial plains their Imian brethren settled, were seen as a sign, a sign of the bright future they could build here.
