The galaxy is at peace. The Neo-makathian empire, the largest of the makathian states, is as strong as ever and the independant worlds are too economically and politically integrated to be independant by more than name. The Imian republic, and all its technological advancements, have been loyal allies for centuries now. Sure, piracy is still a problem here and there; sure the former human-populated colonies who parted from the empire a few decades ago are still resisting its influence, but they can't eternally go against the march of the universe.   Maybe the universe isn't marching that way though. Thanks to recent technological developments, spaceships can go further than they ever went. The discoveries of explorers from all nations brings new opportunities, it also brings new threats; the Neo-makathian empire, thought to be the most influencial state in the galaxy, now has a rival and a war between those two giants would destroy everything.   Internally, the succesfull fight of human populations for their rights has inspired some of them to ask for even more equality and reinforced the democrats, threatening the hierarchized structure which prevailed since the unification. Worse, powerfull and influential clans outside of the capital are talking about a more federal structure while the imperial church is openly criticized by a growing number of holy orders.
