Session 2 - On the Road

General Summary

As the storm outside continued the party took shelter at the Logging camp north of Oakengate. Sharing breakfast (Barberry and Zucchini Cakes), they spent time getting to find out about each other (in a social way). Zallah, who had discovered a mouse secreted into her bag by Barna was disappointed when her new friend escaped out into the wild.   Dwen and Daria talked about the shield mountains, and Dwen’s family and clan and Daria talked more about her relationship with her brother, and how both of them might have felt, stepping out of the shadows of their family. Flint, ever suspicious, was concerned about Aragon’s disappearance.   Around mid-day some of the loggers returned, and happily shared a meal with the new adventurers, making a meal of their stores and items foraged from the forest while Dwen began to brew some elderberry booze.   They stayed another night before the storm broke and they began to head towards Rivercross on their way to Gaanoor. Their first night was spent under a rocky overhang overlooking the cliffs and ocean below.   On arriving at Rivercross they found the Noor river swollen by the recent rains and decided to stay with a farmer, rather than risk crossing the flood water. The farmer in question, Cedric, offered his barn as shelter for the night, and in gratitude Daria blessed his fields while Jedediah and Dwen helped with the cooking.   The next morning the flood had died down and the party went shopping, purchasing adventuring supplies from Harron, the owner of the general store. After giving them advice on negotiating with Max, a local boatman who could take them up river, they asked about Aragon. Harron recognized the name and description and let them know that he’d passed through a few days before, and had been planning to purchase passage on a ship to Ilyta.   The party negotiated with Max, who agreed to take them upriver for 35 silver, if they could find a job for him on the return journey, and exchange for a meal. The party purchased scones and fish stew from a stall and set out on their way.   After a night spent on the banks of the Noor they finally arrived at Gaanoor. Daria found a Jewler, Elenore, who specialised in wirework and was able to make a housing for the diamond given to the group by Nigel and Susan at their leaving ceremony.   The party then headed to  the Overlook Tavern where the proprietor (a goblin named Wix) told them about a bounty on the birds, and speculated about what could have caused the situation.    At her suggestion, the group went to speak Fendrel Redstream, a Magia graduate who confirmed the bounty, (5sp per bird) and speculated the birds might be coming from the north. He pointed the group towards Brom, a local hunter as a source of extra information, noting that Brom had been killing the birds and posting them on mile markers around town. He also confirmed that the rumours of a death had been true, a hunter had been discovered killed by a bloodhawk attack a week before. While no one had witnessed the attacks on people, he said a group of twelve birds had been witnessed by a local farmer taking down livestock.  Fendrel agreed to come with the party to investigate the blood hawks if they could find a solid lead.   The group then went to Brom's house, a small cottage on the edge of town. Brom gave the group more details speculating the birds were coming from the north-west, possibly nesting in the nearby forest. He believed strongly the hunter, who he had found, had been killed by the hawks, but noted that others in town thought it was a bear. He offered his hospitality to the group, and agreed to take them to the place he had found the body the next day.    After a night of rest at the Inn (and trying Wix's Goblin Beer) the party set out to the forest. When they arrived at the site of the death, they discovered a tree root, crushed flat and imprinted with a boot. Puzzled by this discovery they continued to investigate the area, but most signs had been washed away by the recent storm. They decided to lure the birds and follow them back to their next, and hunted a deer to use as bait.
