The Eternal Flame

Every major temple to Mithra has at least one eternal flame representing the embodiment of the god. The flame burns continuously in a brass or bronze brazier, the size of which is representative of the importance or wealth of the temple.   The Dawn Ceremony is performed using this ever-burning flame and there are special flames used in outdoor locations where the Mithrans cremate the bodies of the faithful as part of this ceremony.   Eternal flames are also used as symbols of rank or tradition within some arms of the Mithran Temple, such as the Seekers of the Temple of Donai where each Seeker has an eternal flame in the form of a candle: a light against the darkness. These smaller eternal flames can be bequeathed to a loved one or student if their holder passes away and some of these candles have passed through many hands.
