Stemian

The Indigenous human race of Engle, Stemians, are the most populous humanoid race in Engle (though the inhuman Itich give them a run for their money in some areas). Stemians tend to be short and stocky and have brown hair and pale white skin.
The Stemians are a race used to subjugation; most recently by the Sorendenese Empire who annexed the land about a century ago without serious opposition from the scattered tribes who inhabited the land. 
The Stemians were so easily conquered because they, as a people, had thrown away the trappings of civilisation and central rule several centuries ago after overthrowing the feared priest kings of Seth, who had ruled them brutally for at least a millennia.
As a result of their previous subjugation and eventual rejection of the civilisation imposed on them by the priest kings of Seth, the Stemians appear to many of their more civilised Sorendenese masters as a simple stoic people. For example, their language does not have a written form and they have an inherent fear of innate sorcerers. But intellectually they are in no way inferior to the Sorendenese, just different culturally.
