Books and Communications
The majority of books in this world are handmade and handwritten, either by the original author or scribes transcribing from an original to make, sometimes imperfect, copies of popular books. The mass production of books does occur in some countries, but this is mostly done using magic rather than with a technology such as the printing press.
The mass production of books using magic is strictly controlled in the Sorendenese Empire because of constraints placed on such magicks by the Mithran church. The Sorendenese Empire therefore relies heavily on the use of verbal communications for disseminating information, hence the existence of such official and public services as candle callers.
