Background for the School of Occult Studies

Situated in Constantine, the School of Occult Studies was established by the current king's father, Cyrus Samano Rafael, as a place where innate sorcerers and other practitioners of magick could learn the use of their abilities outside of the control of the Mithan faith, which is the main teacher of magick throughout the The Sorendenese Empire.

As is the practice in most places in the empire, children are tested for innate sorcery at a young age. Unusual to Engle is that children who test positive for sorcery can, if their families wish it, attend the School of Occult Studies with the king as their patron, paying for their tutelage with an equal number of year's service as a paid employee of the crown in a position where they can use their abilities in the service of the country.

Structure

Controlled by the Archmagus of Engle, the School of Occult Studies is a school with students of all ages from all walks of life.

Public Agenda

To teach the magic-using people of Engle to use their powers responsibly. The school is secular but allows private worship of all gods, bar Arion, the so-called god of magick.
For similar reasons, the School does not teach magick that involves contact with beings in other planes.
