European Magical Investigation Agency
European Magical Investigation Agency (EMIA) is an agency of the European Union that supports national law enforcement organization in investigating magical-related crimes. It provides an easy and fast way of cooperation between police forces in different EU countries.
Structure
The agency has regional offices in every European capital. In bigger countries it also has several smaller offices in all of the main cities. Regional offices are relatively independent in their operations and most of the time cooperate closely with national law enforcement.
History
EMIA was founded in 2010 as a response to the growing need for a unified approach to dealing with magic-related crime. As the world has been becoming more and more interconnected international groups of magical criminals, such as The Elementalists, have become more dangerous and better organized. The agency's organization was modeled after such law enforcement institutions as the Interpol or the Blood Magic Investigations Division. Brussels was chosen as the headquarters of the agency, because of the proximity to the most important EU institutions.
Types of operations
EMIA is involved in preventing or stopping of many magic-related crimes. One of the most common is the smuggling of magical artefacts. The agency cooperates with national law enforcement to monitor any smuggler traffic as well as runs undercover operations in known smuggling groups.
Other types of operations include magical terrorism, magic-assisted financial fraud and many others.
