Creating the Flame

In most cases the candle for the Eternal Flame is provided by the best man and the maid of honor. They both carry it into the wedding venue and place it near the couple. After the exchange of vows and rings the celebrant lights the candle and places an enchantment on it.

Extinguishing the Flame

The Eternal Flame of Marriage is extinguish only in two cases. The first case is when the couple gets a divorce. The flame is symbolically extinguished at the end of the divorce process.

The second case of extinguishing the flame can happen when one of the spouses dies. It customary to leave the flame burning throughout the mourning period. Later the choice belongs to the living spouse if they want to keep the flame alive. For some people seeing the flame may be a sad experience while for others it may bring happy memories back.
