Structure

The republic is organized as senate, a senator for each of the Ajjaren tribes. The emperor prosides over the senate.

Culture

The Ajjaren Republic is a highly advanced civilization which promotes innovation and advancement. With many laws and traditional behaviors, they can sometimes be seen as uptight or rigid.

Public Agenda

The Republic is meant to safeguard the nation of Ajjar, and ensure the prosperity of all Ajjaren peoples.

History

The Tribes of Ajjar were once unorganized and indipendent, but they banded together to form the republic. However, one tribe was unsastifed with the arrangement and emmigrated to the Majan territories in the north.

Demography and Population

Most of the population inhabit lands by the coast, or along the continental river. Since life is much easier in large settlements, which can devide the work of water gathering and food production, most of the population is centered in cities.

Territories

The Republic rules the entire Ajjaren continent.

Technological Level

Ajjar is more advanced than any in the area, and were the first to invent the telescope, the water clock, the printing press, algrebra, and the microscope.

Foreign Relations

The Republic has ambassadors in the Lakloren Kingdom, and other nations. Mostly, they facilitate communication, update their government on the state of the lands they are in, and decide trade agreements. Due to Ajjar's familiarity with many other countries, they are often called to mediate other disputes.

Education

Education is very structured. Each student is set on the best track so that they can contribute to society. At the age of seven or eight, they are sent to small neighborhood schools, and taught skills such as reading ajjaren, writing, basic mathematics for trade, handiwork, cooking, geography, medicine, and athletics. Children at the age of fifteen graduate and then find apprenticeships as craftsmen. Some more academic feilds form schools, where subjects such as natural science, alchemy, astronomy, advanced mathematics, art, architecture, music, theater, oration, law, philosophy, medicine, and engineering are taught. While in these schools, things such as food, shelter and clothing are provided for the students, as well as medical care, and time off for family, cultural events, and play. At the age of seventeen, some students take on bigger opportunities, such as becoming an attendent to their senator, a scribe for a judge or politictian. Some become apprentice-scholars, working for specific scholars who oversee their education. Engineers work in their trade, making instruments and machines, some join apothecaries or hospitals to help the doctors. At the age of twenty, these students graduate, and can find a job in their field. Often, they continue on with the mentor they have, working for a wage, while others try and create their own jobs. Some band together to form Academic Co-ops, where they seek work together, and build of each other's success. Some find wealthy patrons who pay them to do their work or research. It is common for a member of the upper class to fund many scientists and researcers and artists.

Infrastructure

The Senate's infastructure council oversees the construction of better roads, cities, aquaducts, schools, and baths. In the capital, there are over fifteen large aquaducts that bring water into the city in over nine hundred public large drinking fountains and pumps. The run-off water is then pumped out to water crops, so undrunk water isn't wasted. Wealthier inhabitents have their own private fountains, and even water on tap. In the capital, there are also four large public bathhouses. These large buildings offer pools and fountains to wash in, some are heated, while others are cold, or have different amounts of salt concentration. In the main rotunda, venders sell soaps, perfumes, and cosmetics. There are also public libraries, theaters, music halls, gardens, and courtrooms.

Currency
The official currency is the Huajan, which are gold coins, with bronze coins equal to about half of the gold. For large amounts of money, gold disks about the twice the size of the normal Huajan, represents a hundred standard coins. The Republic has a very advanced banking system as well, and currency notes became popular, where a piece of paper is exchanged in place of the coins.
Major Exports
Ajjar itself sells suger, coffee, gold, dye, glasswork, and linen as it's main exports. However, more advanced instruments such as compasses, waterclocks, sundials, eye-glasses, telescopic and mircroscopic lenses, arithmetic machines, printing presses, and others are more recent exports. These devices require much skill to create, and are then shipped around the world for very high prices.
Major Imports
Ajjar trades for many goods such as iron, grain, and lumber from the Lakloren nation. Occasionally, they do business with the Majan tribes via Port Aire, where they purchase furs, silver, herbs, semiprecious stones, and woven cloth. However, since these items must be imported through a third party, they are much more expensive.
Legislative Body
Laws are written and drafted by individual senaters at the behest of their voters. It must then be signed by the Emperor. The Emperor is compelled to sign any and all bills that are in compliance with basic virtue tenants. If the emperor refuses, they must state the reasons for it violating a tenent of Ajjaren Virtue. If it is still disputed, it comes to the Circle of Judges to decide. If the bill still proceeds, it is brought before the entire senate, where a majority vote makes it law.
Judicial Body
The Circle of Judges are a set of twenty-one judges. They are trained and educated in schools of law throughout the country, and are voted in by the lower judges representing their school.
