The release of the dracovirus transformed dragons into the draconic descendants that now inhabit Magarth.

By apparent coincidence, the alliances chose to test their viruses simultaneously. Also simultaneously, a jet of energy from the elemental chaos blasted Irralish, the continent where both tests were occurring. Unbeknownst to all, this was all orchestrated by the Queen of Chaos to enable her assault on the plane.   As the viruses began to affect their victims, the chaos magic mutated them, merging them and heightening their virality. As the first test subjects died, all dragons on the material plane were infected with the dracovirus and began to transform.   The mutated creatures lost all their draconic magic, memories and personality. Instead most became dinosaurs, roaming the world as beasts. Some were lucky (or unlucky depending on your perspective) to retain some sentience, becoming either kobolds or the precursors of Draconic Descendant ancestries:
