Lothian

The lothian drow are a rigid hierarchical society controlled by a small number of noble houses, most of whom are matriarchies. The lothians are a powerful, if violently dysfunctional society, influenced by the worship of demon lords.

Each house holds allegiance to a specific demon lord patron—but traditions of worship, warfare, and wizardry help to bind the oft-bickering houses together enough that the society doesn’t simply consume itself from within. Fear of earning the wrath of one’s superior—be it a teacher, a parent, a commander, or the demon one worships—is the real bond holding lothians together, and this system is held in esteem by the lowliest servant and by the most powerful priestess alike.

It is every lothians goal to be adopted into one of the noble houses or, in the case of the truly ambitious, to raise their house nobility. Exceptional talents are identified and nurtured by the great houses and the deeds these individuals perform are watched closely by the houses.

Assassination's are an expected part of lothian politics. If you're not dealing with a couple of attempts a month you're clearly not important. All lothian nobles are trained to both use and detect poisons and subtle weapons are ubiquitous. Most houses have trademark variations on daggers and hand crossbows that are intended to give them an edge in their homes.

Lothians are an agricultural society and most of the population is dedicated to farming the various fungi that grow on geothermal fields. Hunters supplement these crops with the large creatures that roam the forests.
