Gothos' Folly

Gothos' Folly

So, how to start writing a book? Let's go with a "sheesh, got a lot of writing to do." But, now that I've written this I actually started with "So"... how disappointing.   Anywho, let's get this ball rolling. The world's turned to shit and I got nothing better to do than to write this silly book, sitting in this Valantir forsaken tower.   Talking about those old fuckers, let's have a look at who's still left.

The Ancestors:

  • Kor Ellon Lar of the Thian Joghat
  • Mor Amin of the Din Joghat
  • Lareyn Ashar of the Thai Joghat
  • Elra Wen of the Quen Joghat
  • Aen Thar of the Rin Joghat
  • Asdar Mon of the Deus Joghat
  • Ith Undak of the Riel Joghat

The forces:

  • Primurthak, the Origin of Creation
  • Aevi, the Timeless
  • Tiamat, the Dragon Queen of Chaos
  • Feyaar & Gutogg, the Eternal Hunters
  • Zethingandr, the Worldgorger
  • The Lady of Pain
And then there is The Unnamed One, The Crippled One, The Fallen One, The Chained One, The Stranger. He's actually got a lot of names already for being the new guy, and being called the Unnamed One? How does that work, if you call someone Unnamed One, you gave them a name, thus making the name not true... and they called me crazy. But guess who got the last laugh? Old crazy Gothos... unfortunately there's no one around for me to rub their nose in it. Maybe that's why I'm writing this drivel.   Anywho, I'm getting of course. The Valantir, thought for a long time to be untouchable (although I always told everyone that they were nothing else but a few old fucks who thought themselves more important than they were) finally came falling down. “Falling down” is expressing it mildly, most of them are just dead. I was right, nothing but old fucks. Respect for the survivors though… hey that includes me, ha! I survived, whereas all the others just died miserably. The calamity didn’t just get rid of the dragons, but also of the Joghat. It took just a lot longer for the Joghat to die out.

The Calamity

What was the calamity? An effort to get rid of some dragons by a rogue group of Valantir, the Naviri, that went horribly wrong. It opened a doorway to the Far Realm, a place of eldritch terrors and gods, The Fallen One being one of them. Their kind invaded and the rest is history, go read that somewhere else. The Aboleth and the Illithid came took control, learned our secrets, and turned us into them. At first, I thought they wanted to get their guy back, the Fallen One, but they weren’t really looking for him. And the fucker himself didn’t want to leave either, not that he could, I think. The poor bastard was pretty smashed up from being brutally ripped into a completely different kind of existence. I wonder though if it was not his very presence that poisoned the rivven and robbed the Joghat of their power and down we went.   Eventually though, that crazy wyrm did what his name says he does. It gorged up the Far Realm. Unfortunately, the old snake didn’t survive the process and now just floats through the astral sea, still releasing the occasional Illithid or Aboleth. So… the Far Realm is probably still alive and kicking somewhere within that enormous body. The gorging happened to late though, the rivven were already poisoned and stayed that way despite the Far Realm being mostly gone. Hence, why I think it was actually the Fallen One’s fault, cause that fucker is still around.

The Fallen One

Or Unnamed One, or Crippled One, or Chained One etc… blablabla. Not much to say. The Naviri dragged him here, and he was not happy… he? Actually, I don’t know, it? It was not happy, but too weak to do anything about it. The Naviri gave him a little corner of his own on this once beautiful plane. A little spot to play with and leave the rest of us alone. And for a time, it worked, but then he became a little too popular and to active. So, the Naviri came back, ripped him to pieces and spread the pieces all over his little corner of the world. Eventually though someone put the pieces back together and revived him. His corner of the world is gone, the Naviri are gone, and he kinda entered the pantheon of the current world. Although no one likes him, he stinks. They might not have showers in the Far Realm, who knows. That explains why everything that comes out of there is so damn ugly. The rivven have been recovering very slowly, and his renewed presence does not seem to have affected the rivven much. Maybe I was wrong, or the Lady put stronger protections in. Or the rivven have developed some sort of immunity to his presence, like you can with certain diseases. He kinds is like a disease to the world. Maybe we need to try again to send him home? Eh… that’ll be someone else’s problem. Moving on. Now there are two kinds of Valantir – the Ancestors and the Forces. The Latter were there before and probably will remain until the end times. How did we come to know about them? Well, through the former. The Ancestors are former Joghat who through their achievements ascended and came to know the true nature of the cosmos. They passed on their knowledge, and that’s how we learned about the forces. I know I keep repeating myself, but fuck those cunts, they ascended because of their achievements and merits? If that was the case my balls would have ascended ten times already. No, they did something else. Something sinister they wanted to keep a secret. I just don’t know what. Hmm… if I don’t know, how do I know it was sinister? Maybe they just hugged a very specific tree and boom ascension. Anyway, they did not tell us.

The Forces:

Primurthak

Primurthak, Origin of Creation, the Forger, the Maker, the Shaper, the Destroyer, the Ravager etc… blabla. Pretty simple dude (or whatever). Likes to make things, doesn’t care about what he makes and once he is done. It is all about the act of creating rather than the creation itself. This means, from time to time he destroys things, so he can create again. He’s pretty much responsible for everything you see, hear, touch and feel. He created Zethingandr to destroy everything he does, so he can start again. Would not invite to parties, pretty boring.

Aevi

Aevi, the Timeless, the Immortal, the Origin, the Beginning and the End etc… He’s even more basic. He’s in charge of the flow of time. Always around, but never there. Not even sure he’s real, and not just some made-up shit.

Tiamat

Tiamat, the Queen of Dragons, the Embodiment of Power, the Scion of Chaos. So, she is just there and does whatever she fancies. Her strength is what gives her the right to do it. When she lashes out, continents break apart, seas rise and vanish, rivvens divert their course, and the astral sea quivers. Life would be impossible with her around, but that’s why she’s gone. Don’t ask me where though. Legend is though, that Edrinok is nothing more than dried droplets of her blood, which she spattered across the multiverse on one of her many fights with Zethingandr. Why did those two fight you wonder? Both seem to be pretty destructive forces, well Zethingandr respects the process of creation and just comes in afterward. Tiamat, however, doesn’t care about Primurthak’s holy “process”. So both of them did not see eye to eye.

Feyaar and Gutogg

Feyaar and Gutogg, the Eternal Hunters, the Wolves of Winter, The Primordial Beasts, the Twin Wolves of Survival. So these little puppies had but one task, to hunt down Zethingandr and kill it. If Zethingandr were to come around every once in a while to destroy everything so Primurthak could create again, then life would be lost again and have to start anew as well. Therefore, the wolves were supposed to constantly be on the hunt for the great snake to keep her from destroying the multiverse. But then the Far Realm popped up, Zethingandr swallowed it and then died. The Wolves didn’t know what to do. They were never meant to kill the big bastard, just to chase it forever and now they didn’t know what to chase anymore. So they disappeared for a while, no one knows where they went and with no one I mean me. But you’re reading my book, so deal with it. Is it my book? I’m just the one writing it, but who knows who it ends up belonging to after I’m gone. I won’t claim ownership of the book after my death… or maybe I will… this requires further consideration. Anyway, lost track there for a bit. The Wolves, yeah… they were gone and then back again, but Eternal Hunters no longer. They were more reclusive and insular. Hard to find and track down. Their priorities changed. To what? Who knows, I’m not even sure they know.

Zethingandr

Zethingandr, the Worldgorger, the Wyrm of Destruction… a fuck the titles. It’s a huge ass fucking snake that eats everything it comes across. Talked about it quite a bit already. Made by Primurthak to get rid of everything so he can start creating again. Hunted by the Wolves to prevent it from destroying the cosmos, eventually sacrificed itself to prevent the total invasion of the Far Realm. One of the big questions that remain is if Primurthak created Zethingandr, did he also create the other Forces? And If so, why are the Wolves hunting his own creation? And what is Primurthak going to do now, that his creation of destruction is no longer around? I also actually don’t know if the Wolves are as old as the snake? And if they aren’t does that mean the snake had eons before of destroying the multiverse? How many lives and people have been destroyed so far, recreated only to be destroyed again? The mind wonders, and I’d rather stop here before falling deeper into the rabbit hole.

The Lady of Pain

Last but certainly not least: The Lady of Pain, the Iron Matron, the Lady of Sigil, the Force of Justice, the Grip of Tyranny. Always opposed to Tiamat, and most of the time opposed to Primurthak and Zethingandr. She wants order and structure, which all of these forces oppose, well Primurthaks process is quite ordered: create, destroy, create, destroy, and so on. It’s just not the kind of order the Lady likes. Maybe she’s the one who created the Wolves, to keep Zethingandr in check. She was also the one that protected the Prime Material from the poisoned rivven. She diluted the Astral Sea around the Prime Material and created the Ethereal Plane as a layer of protection. The rivven could not pass through the Ethereal Plane and were trapped in the Astral Sea. She deserves our thanks, but it's best not to expect further kindness.   While we know about these Forces, one thing remains unknown: their origin. And without an origin, it is difficult to gage their true motives, if at all possible.

The Ancestors

These old fucks were born before my time, but apparently, they were amazing. Otherwise, the Joghat would not have worshipped them, I guess. I mean, there were more than the ones listed, but they all died in the calamity so who gives a fuck? I certainly don’t.

Kor Ellon Lar

Kor Ellon Lar of the Thian Joghat is the flower among the Joghat, the artist, the beauty is everywhere. Treefuckers is what the Thian Joghat were called. Why would he survive? He probably could not win a fight with a fly. So how exactly did he survive? Probably hid like a coward… Honestly though, who cares about cowards? Kor survived and plenty “non-cowards” did not. He is a survivor. The cities of the Thian Joghat were quite something though. I’ll miss them. Anyway, Kor kinda took it upon himself to look after the stars and the night sky, as well as making sure everyone has sweet dreams. The pointy ears bug me though, although he seems to be a fan, since after the calamity he took a liking to people with even pointier ears. Rumours are, he was the one who managed to convince Zethingandr to just swallow the Far Realm. No idea how he managed that, but I’m grateful. So all in all not too bad of a dude.

Mor Amin

Mor Amin of the Din Joghat is the craftsman, and contrary to Primurthak he cares about his creations, and creates with a goal in mind and not just for the sake of creating. He was a little short for a Joghat but his creations were even grander for it. The monuments and structures of the Din Joghat will stand the test of time and allowed some of the Joghat to survive the calamity. Apparently, the bastard helped The Lady expand Sigil into the metropolis it is today. He also made the initial designs for the ships to travel the Astral Sea.

Lareyn Ashar

Lareyn Ashar of the Thai Joghat always knows how to have a good time. The Thai Joghat generally were pretty laid back and easy going. You couldn’t really rely on most of them, but if you wanted to have a good time there’d be no better place to go. They were also very tolerant, accepting and open to new things. Some would say a little too open, as Lareyn was rumored to have cozied up to the Illithid. Disgusting… and I’m surprised she made it out of there with her brain intact. Maybe, that’s how she survived though by becoming a thrall. Is she still a thrall now? Hmm… I hope not.

Elra Wen

Elra Wen of the Quen Joghat. The Quen Joghat have always been very reclusive. They did not interact much with the rest of us. Therefore, not much is known about them. Elra, however, takes the crown. Nothing is known about her. Only that she courted the Lord of Tul Terion for a while. She used the chaos of the calamity to take sole control of Tul Terion and the domain of death. Some say she had help from the Lich Queen herself, which would make sense. The previous lord wasn’t too fond of her, and ever since Elra took over, the hunt seems to have stopped. Out of our ancestors, Elra is the only one who took the place of a Force, rather than finding her own niche in the cosmos. I don’t know what to think about that. If you ask me the bitch was just crazy. I mean usurping a Force is risky business and could’ve easily gone wrong.

Aen Thar

Aen Thar of the Rin Joghat. The Light, The Free Joghat. It is weird that the Rin Joghat were an actual kunja. They weren’t big on community; they found the individual to be more important. Aen might be the only one of the Ancestors who deserves his spot. Merit was king among the Rin and determined status. So the fucker must actually have done something for him to have been worshipped by the Rin. Nonetheless, the bastard is quite full of himself, always proclaiming a next demon invasion was coming soon, and he seemed to be talking about something else than the Far Realm. Freedom seems to make the mind go crazy. I wonder if he is madder than me? I mean he always mentions a next invasion, that means that there must have been one already, right? Just lucky I missed it. Not really though, because no one had heard about a demonic invasion before.

Asdar Mon

Asdar Mon of the Deus Joghat. What is there to say about the Deus Joghat? Tyrants every single one of them. They tried multiple times to conquer the other kunja. They failed obviously, but that did not stop them from trying. They have hard-ons for rules and order. They usually stick to the deals they make, but they try to trick you when making said deals. Gotta pay a lot of attention to the wording of those deals. Unsurprisingly though, Asdar got along splendidly with the Lady of Pain. Some even say they were a thing for a while. Although that didn’t seem to have ended pretty well. Since the calamity he’s stuck on Infernalis. Maybe there he can live out his power fantasies without bothering anyone. Fucking dick. I think he still owes me a golden apple.

Ith Undak

Ith Undak of the Riel Joghat. I’m gonna miss the Riel Joghat the most I think. They had the finest stuff you could get, no matter what it was, clothes, food, jewelry, and more. Each and every one of them tried to excel at their chosen field of expertise. They had a very wholesome community where everyone was welcome and blablabla… look their stuff was great, but they themselves were a bunch of fake phonies. Their niceties were all just a façade. Behind it, they were all very judgemental people. Only Ith herself seemed to have been above it.   There were more at some point, but most of them are dead, except for the Naviri. I don’t know what happened to them. But I will not indulge them by writing down their names. They should be forgotten. The traitors deserve nothing else. They irrevocably changed the face of the world, and I’m not sure it was for the better. You know, I talked a lot about the Joghat Valantir, and one thing I’ve always wondered is: do the Aboleth and Illithid have Valantir of their own? I hope not.   But what does all this information give us in the end? Fuck if I know, you (yes you, the reader needs to determine that for yourself). One thing is clear though, these Valantir are the powers that be of the future. Sure, there’ll probably be other ascendants, but these ones will determine what the future will look like. They are doing it right now. Humans, Elves, Dwarves etc… all these tiny little creatures walking the earth like they’re the masters and all old Gothos can do about it is write this stupid drivel before biting the dust. But they’ll learn soon enough. But what will they learn? Welp, they better start with how to make fire. Gonna help them a lot, further down the line. Anyway, onto the next topic: How to play Djak by yourself. The quick answer: you don’t. The long answer: …
