Border with Immortality

Birth of the Lich Queen

Immortality is often dreamed about and wished for, even by the Valantir, but barely anyone is willing to make the necessary sacrifices. So let me tell you a story, a story of someone who made the sacrifices. The story begins in the white desert of Icerdiok, where the Drakvir came upon the lair of a white dragon. The whites usually do not present much of a challenge for a group of Drakvir. While they do gain intelligence, they are the ones that keep the most of their bestial childhood. However, caution is still recommended. Their bestial ferocity makes them quite difficult to fight head-on. However, this specific group of Drakvir was rather experienced and the dragon was dispatched. They not only found treasure within the lair but also three small dragon eggs. They took the eggs to the Konungr Ono of Icerdiok as a gift.   The eggs were cared for and birthed three white baby dragons. The dragons were domesticated and over the years they served as amusement for the Joghat of Icerdion. The dragons were even pitted against each other in fights, not to the death but close to it. After decades, as their maturing age came ever closer they were supposed to have one last battle. One dragon was to kill its own siblings and then be put down itself. A huge crowd gathered to witness this momentous event, and they got what they wanted. The dragons fought, and one was victorious. Later she became known as Viliantarix.   The thing one needs to remember about the maturing age is that is an average. There will be outliers, where a dragon matures much later or sooner than is usual. Viliantarix was among the latter. She had been developing her intelligence for some years already, and no one was the wiser. She bode her time and waited for an opportunity. To survive she killed her siblings, and the hatred for her captors grew, and when she realized that killing her siblings didn't matter as she was supposed to die to, the hatred exploded out of her. It was the greatest unleashing of the Ondrak Iveron rivven the world had ever seen, and the once majestic capital city of Icerdiok, was forever known as Anun'Dar, the city of ice. Viliantarix became the most hunted dragon of all of Joghat history. Wherever she went, the Drakvir followed.

The Hunt

For centuries, the Drakvir followed Viliantarix and destroyed everything she tried to build for herself, but they never managed to kill her. She was not only clever for a white dragon, but even when compared to other kinds of dragon did her intellect rise above. Combining various reports Viliantarix mastered all 12 rivven, a feat thought impossible. Most Joghat Arkanaughts never master more than one.   But what happens when you press a Rattat into a corner, it starts to lash out and fight back, and so did Viliantarix. She first struck at the heart of the Drakvir and from there entire Joghat cities were ground to dust. Her defiance inspired other dragons, and something unforeseen happened. The dragons joined forces and formed conclaves, hunting Joghat in her name. It was our end, civilizations crumbled until only a few specks of light remained within a sea of dragons. The korungr were long gone. Every Joghat tried to get by on his own until a group, who called themselves the Naviri, claimed to have a solution. They wanted to unleash a newly discovered thirteenth rivven on all Dragonkind to get rid of them once and for all. Their plan was madness, but nobody listened to two old Drakvir past their glory days.   Their plan worked, and the entire world came crashing down. Viliantarix, however, had a contingency plan. All the while she was roaming around murdering every Joghat in her sight she used her mastery of the Tul Terion rivven to create something new out of all the destruction. She created a new type of flower with some particular properties. With the help of Akkun, these flowers can rip the soul from your body while keeping it tethered to it. A nearby phylactery can then capture the soul. As long as the soul remains safely within the phylactery the body cannot be killed. It can be destroyed, but it will reform next to the phylactery within a few days. As such, Viliantarix became Xhar'Neza, the Lich Queen, first of her kind. She survived the calamity, while nearly all the other dragons died and the world was in ruins.   Whatever time will bring, I am sure the Lich Queen will still be around. At this point, her power rivals that of the gods. At least, so far the Gravekeeper has not yet managed to get rid of this abomination.

Death's Wings

Description

A short, dark flower with dark symbolism, Death’s Wings grow in clusters with only 3 petals per each flower. It’s highly sought after amongst necromancers, as it is one of the main ingredients in becoming a lich. The flower was first introduced to the world by Xhar"Neda the Lich Queen, and has since been used in many a ritual. However, the flower also has a few more harmless effects. For instance, if stored next to food and drink it will keep both fresh almost indefinitely. Furthermore if applied to wounds, it can instantly numb the pain. Although if applied for too long, it will start rotting the flesh.

Size

This flower grows low to the ground in small clusters, typically only reaching a height of 3 to 5 inches. The 2 inch wide triangle-shaped leaves fan out flat and thin at the base and grow 4 inches long tapering down to 0.8 inch width edges. The flowers always grow 3 inch long petals that are ½ inch wide. These petals reach a length of only 1 inch with a width of around 0.5 inches. The center of the flower sprouts thin hair-like tendrils that hang down around 2 inches.

Coloration

The short stems start as a light red color at the ground that fades to a light green at the end. The leaves match the stem’s color in reverse, light green to light red. The flower itself is pitch black, making it very difficult to find at night. The thin hanging tendrils are gray, barely lighter than the flower.

Distribution

The flower is extremely rare, as it only grows naturally in places that have a strong connection to Tul Terion. A connection to Tul Terion can be achieved by a powerful death or simply by the quantity. Also, time does not factor into quantity. Every year, one person could die at the same spot and eventually, a Death's Wings would grow there. As such, for those so inclined, a flower can be grown if searching for one is too cumbersome.
