Trasari Species in M'Zeri | World Anvil

Trasari (Trah-sarr-ree)

The Trasari are a squid-like species that live on Isari and are renowned for being intergalactic postal delivery experts.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Trasari have elongated bodies, with a soft gelatinous texture. They have multiple tentacles, ranging from eight to twelve which are extremely flexible, granting the Trasari exceptional dexterity and precision.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Trasari are born with pale coloured skin which can range from blue, green to purple. Trasari have faint markings that a dependant on their parents. Trasari have the ability to create complex patterns and colours on their skin using their chromatophores.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Trasari possess an innate sense of direction guided by an advanced sensory system that percieves electromagnetic fields and gravitational fluctuations. This ability allows them to navigate through the vastness of space with remarkable precision, often surpassing the accuracy of artifical navigation systems.

Ecology and Habitats

Trasari are found in both fresh and salt water aquatic-scapes of Isari. Whilst the majority of the population are underwater, there few that have adapted to living near or on the surface. While Trasari are able to switch between living in a saltwater and freshwater environment, they need to be slowly acclimated to it first so they don't die of shock. Space-faring Trasari are acclimated to living in freshwater for travelling.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Trasari are carnivorious, feeding off small aquatic organisms. Their diet mostly consists of: fish, crustaceans, mollusks, small invertebrates and other smaller cephalopods. While they used to hunt for it, the Trasari now have farms to increase their food source.

AVERAGE INTELLIGENCE

Trasari are highly intelligent, which enables them to comprehend complex navigational systems and adapt swift to various environments.

Genetics and Reproduction

After a suitable mate has been selected, fertilization takes place externally releasing the respective genetic material into a pool simultaneously. The synchronized release increases the chance of successful fertilization. After a single mating event, both the male and female are rendered infertile, preventing them from producing any further offspring.

Growth Rate and Stages

After the fertilzation process, eggs take around 1-3 months to fully develop and hatch depending on the temperature and nutrient level in the water. After hatching, young Trasari can be removed from the pool, however they are unable to live above water until they reach around 10 years old, which they are then allowed to slowly adapt to the surface. At 20 years old they are deemed to be fully mature and are expected to be able to survive out of the water for longer periods.

Civilization and Culture

MAJOR LANGUAGE GROUPS AND DIALECTS

Trasari mainly communicate through a combination of visual displays, chromatophores and intricate patterns of bioluminescent displays. Written language is made with 3D space in mind and traditionally carved onto stone sculptures. With the progress of technology, the Trasari language is represented trough holograms and interactable 3d objects.

COMMON DRESS CODE

Trasari don't usually wear clothing as their bodies are not suited to wearing garments, however they will utilize specialized covering made from flexible, waterproof materials to protect them from surface enviormental hazards.

COMMON TABOOS

Destroying or stealing eggs from other Trasari is consider a crime of the highest order, which can lead to punishments ranging from being rendered infertile, banishment, to the death penalty.

COURTSHIP IDEALS

Due to the biological limitation of being able to reproduce once in their lifetime, with subsequent infertility has resulted in an extremely careful approach in finding a suitable partner. Trasari will showcase their abilities with intricate swimming patterns, vibrant bioluminescent light displays and displays of intelligence and resourcefulness.
Trasari also take part in complex compatibility assessments which involves chemical signalling, where potential mates will release pheromones that indicate their genetic make up and reproductive health. They then use these cues to make an informed decision regarding a potential partner. The courtship period is very lengthy for Trasari, as it allows for a thorough evaluation and bonding between potential mates.

COMMON TRADITIONS

Trasari hold ceremonies for significant life transitions. Hatching of the eggs is an extremely important event for Trasari parents, which they will hold a party with friends and relatives.
