Death Mite

They're smart. They hide at first so you don't know they're there and by the time you do notice, there are thousands all around, crawling towards you.
— Nameless Cleric

These small skeletal creatures are have the appearance of an undead monkey and are thought to have been created by a necromantic experiment that went wrong. First appearing on the Southern Plains, these creatures slowly changed the landscape from the bright open plains to the desolate wasteland that it is now. At first the spread was slow, but as time passed its reach extended further and faster than before.   Bordered on the East by water the mites had nowhere to go except West. On the Western edge lies the mountain foothills which has stopped the mites spread, but many ecologists are unsure as to why.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Death Mites are undead skeletal creatures. Their head has 2 long horns which vary from one creature to another, large side set eyes made from shadow and bone, and a small toothy mouth. The front 2 limbs could almost be described as arms for the control and detexterity that the creatures have with them. The 2 hind legs are long and poised such that these creatures might be able to jump great distances though this behaviour has not been observed. A long tail made of bone which is able to curl and flex similar to that of a monkey.

Genetics and Reproduction

It has not been observed how these creatures reproduce but do not have any reproductive organs so it is theorized that anything killed by these creatures will become another.

Ecology and Habitats

These creatures drain the life force from every living thing in their vicinity. Like a swarm of locust the creatures move across the land in large swarms of searching for more living things.
