Boneshatter Range

The ancestral home of the dwarves of Velos, the Boneshatter Range was a particularly inhospitable set of mountains that ran through the middle of Velos. At the extreme edges, the range abutted the territory of Wyndros, Serihuin and Karasna alike - however, the inhabitants of the range have only rarely faced threats from outside.

In contrast to their harsh and uninviting appearance, the interior of the Boneshatter mountains have been largely hollowed out and repurposed into massive complexes. Beyond the craftsmanship of even the most talented of magically-aided crafters, the Boneshatter mountainhomes were said to be the last gift from the creator of the dwarves, Raske.

Inhabitants

Owing to the Raskine traditions of hospitality, the peoples of the Boneshatter Range were exceptionally varied. By 2865ME, nearly every sort of folk could be found either within the mountains themselves or, increasingly, in the valleys between.

The inhabitants of the valleys had diverged only slightly from their mountainhome cousins - though many more traditionalist Republicans hold the belief that when trouble comes again they'll regret leaving the security of stone.

Animalia

While the Boneshatter slopes are hostile towards most humanoid life, they were well-populated with animal life. Goats were exceptionally common, as were a peculiar variety of mountain canine often raised by Republicans as both companions and pets.

Though regarded, by 2865, as fairy tales and exaggeration, stories persist of goats with crystalline horns or wings. One peculiar Boneshatter cryptid was known as the Spineshank, a supposedly equine-shaped creature covered in bony growths and said to be hostile towards anything not itself.

Remnants of the Doom

The Doom of Shatterhold was not contained to the mountain itself. Over the centuries, creatures crept up through the cracks of Shatterhold - or emerged from the consuming shadow of Cotiahold. These creatures were never uniform, without standard shape or number of limbs. The Remnants were twisted things, and by 2865ME they had become a dire threat to travel through the region.

What they truly were - or what magics twisted unfortunate creatures into the Remnants - remains unknown.
