The Main Line

"The Line" is the military defense that cuts the entirety of the eastern lands off from the attacks of the Grays. The 550-mile portion of The Line that runs along the western border of The Republic of Adria proper is referred to as "The Main Line", to distinguish it from the Brauron Line. The Main Line is distinct from the Brauron Line not only in governance, but also in that it sees much less combat (though both realities are directly related). This is not to say that the defenses are light by any means, or that attacks are even remotely rare. But the assaults here are comparatively less relentless and are typically carried out by less organized and less intelligent Grays.

Cities built on this border - notably Kaokima and Timbercliff - sustain a powerful military presence, but are not prevented from also hosting bustling markets, entertainment districts, and the like. Indeed, their crucial role in the defense of the free lands keeps them thriving economically, and they can thus be extremely desirable places to live (particularly Helea) with the exception of any districts directly adjacent to the night walls themselves.
