Foremaster Gareth Jain-Albivi
Foremaster Gareth Jain-Albivi (born Gareth Albivi) is the elected leader of the Republic of Fennerland. A former adventurer renowned for his sharp mind and sharper tongue, he was the catalyst for the dismantling of the monarchy of Fennerland and the subsequent unification of the Fennerian continent under his purview.
Biography
Growing up in Martenstead with his mother, seamstress Elymnia Albivi, young Gareth grew up not knowing his father. By his own admission, he was a troublemaker in his youth, often being caught by the city guard in the middle of mischief, fights, or even criminal activity, relying on his quick wit to get himself out of trouble afterward. His mother saw in him a boy who wanted more out of life than he was dealt, and encouraged him to channel his energies into a more constructive direction. After several failed attempts to learn a trade over the following years, Gareth got swept up by a passing band of adventurers, who were taken in by the lad's verbal prowess and chutzpah. Without clearing it with his mother, Gareth set out with them, and did not return to Martenstead for decades. After making a name for himself as a rogue, he had a fortuitous encounter on a ship traveling between Waversham and Nistcape. The six other adventurers he met on that ship, among them future Waversham mayor Colton C. Chambers, joined up with him to form an adventuring party the likes of which Luquastra hadn't seen before. The crew, calling themselves the Miracle Workers, travelled together for nearly two decades, growing strong and wealthy as they traversed the entire planet. As the leader of the Miracle Workers, Albivi was easily the most famous of the seven, and became known the world over for his immense capacity to rally people to his cause. He made allies all around the world; something which would aid him tremendously later in life. Among the Miracle Workers' most notable acts were the resolution of the Crescent Crisis, the discovery of the Buried City of Mala'haaiya in the Ala'in Dominion, and the defense of Jatham against the forces of pirate lord Vile Luc. During his travels, Albivi also met his father, Olber Jain, who had been taken captive by a band of slavers and sold into servitude. He bought his father's freedom, reunited with his mother in Martenstead, and completed the family again. Since then, he has been using both of his parents' surnames. Twelve years ago, the now widely known Jain-Albivi and his friends found themselves in Kairsmouth, where they remained for several months. While there, they noted the people's dissatisfaction with King Merthyr, and began work to orchestrate an uprising against the king and his decadent satisfaction. The extremely gifted public speaker that he is, he quickly rallied the people, and the same year, the Selday Uprising overthrew the monarchy and the Republic of Fennerland was declared. The fledgling republic looked to Jain-Albivi for guidance, and he would give it - by taking the leadership position himself, as has always been his way. Under the command of Foremaster Jain-Albivi, the new united Fennerian nation sought to placate disgruntled regions - easily achieved by him, by simply maneuvering the right people and resources to the right places with the right orders - and unite the continent fully. This last task proved extremely difficult to achieve, and required military intervention. Thus, four years after taking office, Jain-Albivi sent the united Fennerian armies into the Duchy of Ganet to begin the Ganetian Conquest. It took three years of strategizing, harsh battling, and calling in every single favor he owed, but at the end, Jain-Albivi and his companions stood victorious, and the United Democratic Republic of Fennerland was formally established. Recognizing the weight of his duties, Jain-Albivi finally chose to disband the Miracle Workers after twenty-three years, and his companions scattered to the winds - except for Colton C. Chambers, who had come into his own as Jain-Albivi's second-in-command, and the Waverian was therefore appointed mayor of Waversham.Personality
Gareth Jain-Albivi as a person has always been defined by his most notable talent: the gift of gab. A highly persuasive speaker, Jain-Albivi excels in many departments, such as diplomacy, public speaking, negotiation, tactics, and commanding military units. These gifts make him an unmistakably popular ruler throughout Fennerland, and are an important part of what's keeping the immense nation together. He never gets flustered and always has a reply ready. He doesn't take himself or many other people or things very seriously, as he always gives off the air of someone already knowing everything he needs to. Whereas many love him, some find him extremely annoying, or even suspicious. Jain-Albivi is very secretive about his personal life - though many assume he doesn't have much time for one, as he is almost always on the job, often spending days on end in the Golden Tower in Kairsmouth. As a leftover from his adventuring days, he possesses a Stone of Teleportation attuned to many locations across the world, including most major cities in Fennerland, as well as Hartmere, Hymnis, and most likely many others. As a powerful rogue, he is a very gifted bladesman, and an expert of disguises and stealth. Due to these factors, he sometimes pops up in the strangest of places: according to a popular rumor, he was nearly reflexively beheaded by Supreme General Althea Dragonbane when he "popped in out of nowhere" right in front of her at the Royal Palace in the Red City.Gareth Jain-Albivi
