Sapient Species

This article is depicting a potential future of this world. Some events in here might not have happened yet and will be changed by the actions of the players involved in this world. Until these campaigns have concluded, this article will exist in a superposition between existance and non-existance.   Some version of this article will survive, but who knows what it will be when all of this is over

In the world of Lothrea, there are only a few species that keep to themselves. Most of them are living together, especially in the big cities. Of course, different people have different views on life, but it's often not your species that defines you, but the place you grew up in.

The Sundering

Some of the species you can find all over the place today in Lothrea, have been here since it's beginning. Nobody really knows where they came from. During the War for Dawn the world was ripped apart in what's called The Sundering. An event that pulled the material realm into three parts. They Feywild, the Shadowfell and the Material Realm itself. Those species that have been here during this event, got split into multiple versions of them as well, most of which are still around today.

Humans

Humans don't live nearly as much as many other species out there, but they were one of the first to set foot in this world. Humans are incredibly adaptable to new circumstances, and their physical attributes reflect that. They can range from 1.5m close to 2.0m in height, and 50-120kg in weight. Their skin ranges from very pale to nearly completely black, and their hair can take on colors from black to blond.

Feyborn

Elf

Elves inheritet the grace and beauty of the Fey. They have a natural affinity to magic. Compared to humans, they tend to be slightly shorter on average and more slender. Elves are probably one of the longest living sentient species out there and can get over 500 years old. After arriving back on the material realm, they quickly adapted to their surroundings, forming the different elven races we know today. Even if all of them share a common fey anchestor, today they might have close to no similarities.

Dwarves

Dwarves are the only known sentient species that was around at that time, but hasn't been affected by the The Sundering. Some believe that the Dwarves just have been too stubborn to be split apart, others believe that their versions of the Feywild and Shadowfell just have gone extinct.

Created Species

Dragonfolk

After the The Sundering, the Dragons created their own species, their own followers. They wanted to be worshipped like the gods, but the other species of Lothrea didn't want to worship them. So over a few centuries, they created their own species, like Kobolds, Lizardfolk and the Dragonborn.   Led by their creators, the Dragons themselves, these species built an incredible empire originating from the continent Dorovari. The Everlasting Empire of the Dragon strechted across the whole continent and had collonies all over the world. It's said that the sun never sat within the empire. But just a few decades before the War of Fate, the entire empire, and all its inhabitants on Dorovari vanished without a trace. The colonies quickly lost hold of their conquered areas until they had to fall back into small regions. These remains of the empire usually keep to themselves and have very tense relationships with the surrounding countries, as the old wounds sit deep.

Warforged

The Everlasting Empire of the Dragon researched the foundations of magic and the world. They have discovered countless things that have been lost with them when their Empire vanished. One of these discoveries was the creation of automatons of all kinds. Starting with dumb simple robots, they perfected their craft over time, until they created artificial sentient beings.   After the Empire vanished, these automatons were left behind, now walking the ruins of the old Empire. From time to time, some of them reach other continents on ships or just walking along the sea floor until they reach their destination. As these automatons have lost their purpose without the Empire, they are often looking for a new one in new lands.

Plane Touched

Sometimes mortal creatures are touched by the influence of other planes, of other places. These people are called Plane-Touched, and depending on the plane or energy that touched them, their abilities vary massively. During the Age of Arcanum these people have been rather common all across the world, but after the War of Fate, the energies of other planes have been mostly gone, and so have been Plane Touched.   But after roughly 700 years, Plane Touched slowly appeared again, as the influence of the outer planes was seeping back into the world. Mages and Scholars investigated these occurrences, and many Plane Touched became test subjects during their research. About 50 years after the first Plane Touched showed up again, an event, now known as the Resurgence happened. In the year 755 MOR, many Plane Touched were born, as the influence of the planes suddenly reappeared. To this day, it's unknown what caused this event.   Read More:

  • Beastfolk

Beastfolk are creatures home to the Feywild. Visually similar to other beasts on the material world, the magic of the Feywild morphed them and enhanced their mental and physical abilities. Even if it's incredibly rare, from time to time you can find members of this species exploring the material world. Some of them even built their own settlements in remote places, or settled down in the cities of this world.
