Intro

A new luxury cruise that teleports to a different location every single day, now that's something the guild of arcane artificers have never heard of before. Luckily they have Luke indebted to them, time for another mission.

"Investigate how they teleport this ship and report back to us."

As Luke embarks the ship he meets the colorful cast of this murder mystery, from a psychotic and very flirty noblewoman to one of the highest ranking officers of the royal guard. They all have their unique reason to be on this very special ship. Every night the cabins get locked off as a safety measure during the teleportation sequence. When they wake up they are indeed in the sea of a thousand waterfalls, but with one less member.

Meet the Cast

A short description from Luke about the different characters.

Luke

Our protanogist, a middle-aged man with severe amnesia and a powerful Affinityite. He's employed by the guild of arcane artificers in exchange for more information about his past. This time he has to investigate how a ship can teleport, as far as the oldest records go, teleportation has never been possible in Lotharren. If this kind of magic is out there, the guild needs it.

Despite his nonchalant look, Luke's powers are unprecedented. He has divine affinity for vigor and mythical might. Right now his only goal is to find out about his past. He really didn't need another murder case to solve.

Old Money

(nobility)

Tess Antinais

Luke quickly noticed one of the twins wasn't like the other. Tess was extremely flirty and forward with him, she seemed like a total lunatic. It looked like she was playing around with the other guests as well, just toying with them. He had heard of the Antinais twins before, born into incredible wealth in one of the biggest noble houses of the world, she definitely didn't play the part of a traditional noblewoman.

At first glance she seems inseperable from her sister, always in the same room, Luke had trouble reading her. What are her true intentions and why is she here? She feels out of place, something isn't right.

Seri Antinais

Gorgeous and elegant, it was hard even for Luke to keep his eyes off her. There was something in the way she moved and talked, oozing a limitless amount of charisma. He could tell she had experience navigating herself through the nobility, unlike her twin sister. Luke had met a lot of nobility but none seemed as genuine as her. When she talked to you she made you feel as if you were the most important person in the world.

Was this all a front? Surely someone born into her position could not possibly be this... considerate. He was intrigued.

Wallace Grimor

Lord Wallace looked like a calm, thoughtful and clever old man. However, Luke quickly discovered that he was quite the opposite. He was almost always drunk and rude to everyone, even the sister in green tried to stay away from him. He's one of the highest ranking officers in the Royal Guard but didn't act with dignity and decorum at all.

If anyone could be a liability in an investigation it's this guy. It was hard for Luke to understand how someone like him could get to the top of the Royal Guard. It probably had something to do with his family history.

New Money

Glenn

Luke had heard of Glenn before, he was famous for inventing the lumess-grenade, a deadly grenade used by the royal guard. He went from a total nobody to immense wealth, what does that do to a person?

At the ship he seemed very shy and didn't really engage with any of the other guests. Why would he book such a luxury cruise if he wasn't gonna engage with the guests? What was he really here for?

Esmeralda

Esmeralda brought her parent's business to incredible wealth by being smart and ruthless in her business conduct. She climbed every step of the ladder at a faster rate than the one prior, until she reached the skies. Now she's looking for another challenge. Esmeralda is social, smart, funny, she seems to have it all. To Luke she looks like the only person who feels right at home in this place.

Crew

The Butler

The butler, the barman, the cleaner, it appears he does every job on the ship. He seems to have serious mood swings, Luke had seen this before in other humans, multiple people living in the same body, it always meant trouble.

He would definitely keep his eyes open around him.

The Cook

Luke knew there was a cook and he had caught a glance of him while boarding the ship but besides that he hadn't seem him. He was famous for cooking the best dragonwolf, a highly illegal dish. He had cooked for every lord and lady you can imagine, making the most absurd and extravagant courses. With the current guestlist it only made sense to have a cook of this caliber on board.

The Hostess

A sweet lady who guided the party on board. She was the arbiter of the group, keeping everyone in the correct groups and making sure everything was adequate. She had quite the responsibility, keeping guests of this magnitude happy. With such a little crew that would prove to be challenging for sure.

If anyone would know what everyone was doing at the time, it would be her.

The Brain

Lestie

Luke briefly met Lestie before boarding, he didn't board with them, claiming he gets sick during the teleportation sequence. He seems to be the brain behind the entire ship, an odd fellow who couldn't stop smiling. He was very enthusiastic to meet everyone, and he seemed to know who Luke was. That doesn't happen often. He didn't ask Lestie anything, he wasn't supposed to interrogate Lestie, but try and uncover the ship's mechanism in secret.

Author's Notes

Murder on the Arcaenum is a sideplot in my novel and this serves as a landing page for that. In the future I will add all the places the ship goes to as well. Gonna work out all the character articles next though!

What a great setup for a whodunit murder mystery! I don't trust anyone onboard. You've done a great job setting the tone!

Is this a book or a TTRPG adventure?
