Ancient Forests

"Long ago," the village elder apeling spoke, "the Meteor struck. And from it scattered seeds, all over the continent." He glanced around the room at the captivated children. "And those trees grew for millenia, for so long that the they became huge. Every tree was as huge as this one." He gestured to the branch below him, the bough of the tree easily twenty feet wide, the tree itself stretching up as far as the eye could see. "When the Horrors came-" he reflexively tapped a hand to his chest, then pushed it to the sky- "they cut down the trees. They levelled them, leaving nothing but the Great Stumps. Some day, you'll go on a field trip to the closest one." The children gasped in wonder. "Ocharial was once a forest, the most ancient and massive of forests. Now it is mostly plains, but one tree remains, and it is this one." He patted the branch beneath him. "We are the remains of an ancient forest."

Manifestation

When a meteor struck Ocharial, it scattered the seeds of massive trees. These trees grew, and each of them was miles tall and miles wide, absolute superstructures. However, the Horrors either didn't like these, or destroyed them in a fit of rage. This has left nothing but huge mesas, miles wide, that stick out of the ground. They are made of wood, mostly flat, and from a distance look like land features. Only one tree remains from these ancient forests, though some speculate that some of the huge trees in other forests may be saplings, and it is the Meteor Tree.

Localization

This is thought to only affect Ocharial, as that is where the meteor struck and scattered the seeds. However, some speculate that this has also happened on a smaller scale on other continents, such as Grien.
