Lost Arcana of Gia

Created by

Through the Breach, the raw arcana of the Prime Elementals burst into the material plane, a world created in secret. Veiled from the purview of the countless Gods, the Primes sought a planet to call their own, a world that looked to them as deities. Gia represents the success of bringing forth life through the collision of all the Prime’s violent arcana, a world born with limitless potential. Successful in their initial design, the remnants of this violent arcana have ripped through the eras of time, resulting in unknown consequences.
Gia is a world bred from competition, hardships, struggles, war, and death. The four elder races of Elves, Gnomes, Humans, and Dragonborn were created to compete on a grand stage to prove their superiority and, ultimately, the power of the Primes. This trait, this struggle, remains prevalent in all of creation, leading to a world where competition, in all regards, is the only way of life.

Understanding the Universe

One of a kind in the Geon System, this small habitable planet features distinct areas separated by its two oceans, one that brings life and the other death. Separated by the pull of an unfathomably deep underwater waterfall, most residents remain on the central continents within the Still Water Ocean, its waters relatively shallow, calm, and safe. The largest ocean, The Depths of Sedgedon, remains shrouded in mystery after the world lost its trade winds and ability to fly but is believed to hold the remaining Titans, uncharted islands, and broken civilizations.
Gia features seven continents, all of which feature unique cultures and types of adventures, 52 main population centers, two oceans, a 1000-day calendar, four seasons, and four uninhabitable planets that circle its two suns, Geon and Mion.

History

The World is shy of 14,000 years old yet has already seen six global events that have naturally transitioned time into six distinct eras. These are th Great Trial, the Great Migration, the Age of Amplification MION, the Great Freeze, the Reemergence, and finally the most recent change, the Post Cleanse Era. The world continues to reel following the devastating Battle of the Cleanse, which saw the arcane-inclined march against the mundane, their prize the subjugation of all those who could not harness the gift.
The numbers slaughtered easily matched the deaths during the Age of Titans and maybe even those lost as the planet crusted over with ice. Along with about half the population, the magical bloodlines lost seven hundred years ago will have rippling effects throughout history, the arcane becoming less potent and those with the natural gift infrequent. Today, Gia is but a shadow of itself focused on expanding the population and keeping a watchful eye on the next threat or those that might rear their heads again. In the shadows, the whispers of heightened arcane abilities can be heard. Still, the scar is simply too fresh for most of the population.

Religion and the Accepted Gods

During the second era, when the Prime creators departed Gia, the first God found the small Geon System. No longer hidden by the arcane shield, the system fell into the purview of the material plane and the Gods. Intrigued by the sudden appearance of an entire system, the Celetrial Concord descended onto the surface, finding a thriving civilization and a system of worship to the elements deeply engrained in most. So, the Gods set to create their own worshipers, though their strength was weakened by the presence of elemental magic.

Dwarves, beastial races, and half races draw their lineage back to the second era, products of Gods' powers on Gia. Unable to singularly create divine power, the Gods settled on a new concept. In this combined pantheon, worshipers would reach out to the God they needed. This collective strengthened the hold of the Gods, though their direct influence remains limited. Out of this necessity, the Order of the Devout was formed, the pantheon that remains the prominent religious entity today, and the keepers of the eight, the named and accepted Gods of the pantheon.

Global Economy

Gia faces a growing concern of large guilds monopolizing trade routes, major operations, and financial institutions. This is a byproduct of the immense wealth gained through the many population-decimating events which allowed for asset grabs and consolidations. Guilds provide assess to resources and employ thousands, but this shift is at the fringes of destroying local economies. Overall, efforts are in place globally to curtail this potential, but acquiring needed resources through other means has become increasingly difficult.
World Economy Gia is integrated across continents, with the large trading guilds have ensured that every item is within reach with the correct price tag. Markets, pricing, and accessibility are overly controlled by the local ruling agent; however, access to standard supplies generally remains consistent across the continent. Items and materials harvested from outside the local area are typically more expensive, with using outside materials in construction a universal sign of wealth or privilege.
