Lopper Character in Lorrimor’s Legacy | World Anvil

Lopper

Vance Saetressle, or the Lopper, was a serial killer who was notorious for stalking his prey before killing them. He would hide in the most unlikely of places, sometimes for days upon end with only a few supplies to keep him going while he waited for the exact right moment to strike. Once his target was alone, the Lopper would emerge to savagely behead his victim with a handaxe.   After capture, the Lopper was thrown into an oubliette in Harrowstone Prison where he malingered with broken legs for months. Eventually he would attempt to escape, but became trapped again when the prison caught fire and he eventually died from thirst.

After Death

The Lopper would eventually live on as an undead monstrosity. His spirit, mixing with the decay of his body and the filthy condensation on the oubliette’s walls, has become a wraith. Although incorporeal, the Lopper appears similar to the way he did in life, save that his arms are unusually elongated. Content to spend most of his time lurking in the depths of the oubliette, the Lopper is swift to react to the approach of living creatures, rising up from his oubliette with a soul-chilling shriek. Not quite a full-fledged ghost, the Lopper is a variant, unique wraith—not quite as outright deadly as a standard wraith, yet perhaps more horrific to face. He makes his incorporeal touch attacks with his ghostly axe.

The Fellowship

Before he was finally vanquished by the Fellowship, the Lopper killed Neferu, Drago, and Daniel, who were later raised. After handling the Lopper's axe, Drago became cursed with a terrific pain lancing through his neck at nearly sunrise and he was unable to relinquish the weapon. Eventually he was able to free himself after visiting Gravecharge, the central cathedral of Pharasma in Lepidstadt.

The Canopic Stone

Vanamoinen eventually discovered that the Lopper existed within the Canoptic Stone. The Lopper told him that he could help prevent Auren Vrood from using his "Circle of Death" ability and free Drago from the Ebon Requiem in exchange for being freed from the stone. To free him, Vrood would have to be killed and then the soulstone shattered in his presence. The soulstone could also be destroyed in the presence of the canopic stone, but this would have a much lesser degree of success.

Feldgrau

During the battle in Feldgrau against Vrood, the Lopper did indeed help out. However, Vanamoinen sacrificed himself and became decapitated. The Lopper then possessed the fallen Fellow's body and engaged in battle before leaving the scene.
