Skenfisher

Career

Career Progression

Skenfishermen progress in the same way most sailors do, starting out as deckhand and progressing to more specialized roles like boatswain, gunnerman, navigator, helmsman, first, second, and third mates, and captain.

Payment & Reimbursement

Skenfishers, due to the many hazards of their work and the valuable service they provide, are one of the highest paying jobs in Velhamia.

Other Benefits

Skenfishers are highly respected by other sailors, and many have gone down in story, song, and legend and are renowned in any port across the world. If you have a reputation as a successful skenfisher, you are known to be the hardiest of the hardy among sailors.

Perception

Purpose

Skenfishers hunt for skensharks in the Grayslick Sea, for the purpose of harvesting their shark oil, a valuable resource in creating fuel, explosives, and countless other alchemical processes.

Operations

Tools

The ship is the most important tool of a skenfisher. The ship is home, fortress, and processing plant. Skenfishing vessels are typically heavily armed with cannons and pneumatic harpoon weapons. Individual skenfishers are equipped with utility knives, rope, grappling hooks, as well as weapons such as handheld pneumatic harpoon guns, swords, bludgeons, and even flame throwers for any creatures that may attempt to invade the vessel. They carry specialized swords called shark cleavers designed to remove chunks of flesh from the sharks they hunt.

Workplace

A skenfisher's workplace is his ship. Different parts of the ship have different functions, and the main part of a skenfishing vessel that is unique is the vatroom, a place below deck where skenshark oil pustules are melted down into shark oil.

Dangers & Hazards

The job of a skenfisher is extremely dangerous, and not for the faint of heart. Skenfishers sail the Greyslick Sea, a notoriously tempestuous expanse of ocean, also known for extremely dangerous fauna. A skenfishing vessel returning with a full crew intact is a rare sight indeed.
