Lore

Lore is the fourth planet of L-42 in the Aquila quadrant. It is a primarily desert planet, consisting of only 1/4 ocean surface and less than 0.2% of the surface of the planet containing fresh water.   While the planet has only one major settlement, the City, there is a steady if slow expansion to whatever oases are within traveling distance. This is primarily driven by the plutocratic, corporation-controled government of the City.

Ecosystem

Lore is a desert planet, having aproximately 1/4 the water of Earth. While this may not seem significant, Lore barely contains enough water to sustain carbon-based life.   The soil of Lore is primarily limestone (calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate) heavily laced with iron potassium. The iron potassium gives the limestone a characteristic grey-green color, as well as giving plants a tendancy toward reddish tints. Iron Reeds are particularly striking in color, being a bright blood red.   The reddish weeds that cover most of the desert give the planet a red/green blotchy appearance.

Fauna & Flora

Natural inhabitants of Lore are almost exclusively plant or plant-like species. Animal species that are considered native are genetically modified species from other worlds which have been intentionally adapted to provide for the human populations or in support of such species. Megoths are one such species, having been developed as a hardy, fast-growing food source for the much more useful Giant Millipedes.

Natural Resources

The combination of limestone and iron potassium makes the soil of Lore an incredible fertilizer addittive. This is likely why there is so much life despite the harsh environment. Lore uses this and the striking color of the soil to produce a fashionably natural designer potting soil for the flower beds and potted plants for the rich and fashionable.   Kloffee is also a popular export, as is the fabrics made from Iron Reeds.   Though Pearberry was looked at as a potential export, the fruit simply doesn't grow enough to export in significant numbers, nor is the demand high enough for it. Some wealthy individuals might include it as an exotic fruit, but it has no significant desirability outside of rarity offworld.
