Founding
The Colony of Lordania had reached a level of development that meant a provisional government was no longer enough to manage the expanding regions. Instead, those who had amassed the wealth and means to establish a government, did so together. In a way, creating an aristocratic republic, the Lordanian Unitary Republic, in which only the powerful could run for government.
When the Lordanian planet was first discovered, it was observed to be slightly smaller, yet atmospherically similar to an early Earth. This abundant planet was therefore the primary target of the colonisation effort in the region. The colony ship bound for Lordania was comprised of a large multi-ethnic collective of Martians and Earthlings that were able to afford themselves the luxury of this planet. Built on the backs of a huge working population, the planet developed rapidly. While atmospheric satellites handled much of the initial terraforming of the planet, large scale infrastructural works allowed the people to manipulate their planet on a much larger scale. Dams created artificial lakes, which were directly created to take advantage of the weather. The provisional government, created from the most experienced members of the colonial endeavour, soon found themselves heading towards the creation of a truly post-scarce society. Spending and gaining in abundance, over thirty years the planet grew wide and tall. However, this acquisition of wealth was not truly proportional. While Lordanian classism had yet to truly manifest, it's seeds were sown by the fact that much of planet's mineral and food wealth began to be monopolised by a large group of companies and people. These people became the Upper Lordanians, who inhabited the tall, glistening towers closer to the lakes. Their wealth allowed them to directly fund the government's growth, gaining greater representation on the political stage. Whereas much of the Lordanian workforce found themselves unable to afford themselves the representation. By the mid 2190s, it had become very clear that the Colony of Lordania had reached a level of development that meant a provisional government was no longer enough to manage the expanding regions. The establishment of a Lordanian Unitary Republic, based on traditional republican ideals, was seen as a noble and righteous thing, and inspired by the governments of Mars and Earth that they had left. While the government was elected, and all Lordanians were extended the right to vote, the luxury of an office was only granted to those who had contributed to the state, and thus, they created an aristocratic republic in which only the powerful could run for office. The Lordanian Unitary Republic was not the first planetary government to be founded, however it was the most economically developed. The foundation of the Unitary Republic had major implications for the rest of the Lordanian Cluster.
