Platine Garrison
The Platine Garrison is the name of the military and law keepers of Mercercle.
They operate both to keep the lands of Mercercle safe and to protect the interests of the Council of Six - while the Courts of Maal keep the legal system running, the Officers of Maal are not always trusted by the less devout to administer justice.
They are largely lawful neutral, in line with the general ethos of Mercercle, though some skew lawful good or lawful evil - it is hard to find neutral or chaotic individuals in the ranks, as they largely chafe against the rigidity of the military.
Religious individuals of certain faiths - Maal, Terak, Shalimyr and Mormekar - will find themselves at home within the ranks, but the more flighty types such as Zheenkeef or Aymara will find the garrison stifling.
Structure
The Platine Garrison is divided into the following, each named after a precious metal in Ducercle:
- The Mercule: army
- The Lor: navy
- The Argent: arcane
- The Elect: police
Culture
The Platine Garrison takes itself extremely seriously - and expect the members of it's corps to do the same. Any member of the garrison is expected to remain sober and obedient whilst on duty and even off duty they are expected to remain as a paragon of virtue. Members have been disgracefully dismissed for shenanigans that occurred while on shore leave or on furlough, and some have even been arrested.
Abandoning posts is taken quite seriously as well, and can lead to you being sentenced to up to 10 years in jail.
Public Agenda
The Garrison is a strict community, and are generally considered a safe place to go with grievances or reports. However, they are also not known to be particularly understanding of circumstances. A theft that uncovers the scene of a murder and leads to the capture of said murderer would also land the thief in hot water as well. That being said, it can make many people hesitant to report crimes to the garrison and instead they turn to the Officers of Maal, who are largely a lawful good organization and much more understanding on those extenuating circumstances.
History
The Platine Garrison was formed a few years after the Council of Six took power, and filled the void left by the King's Guard after the death of the last Ducercle king in 1212. The garrison was officially formed in 1260, and has become the largest integrated military in Lorannis, since the Adurans hold a smaller military overall and the Cystilians use largely arcane casters as their military force. Vespmar has no formal military but instead uses bands of scouts and guerrilla fighters when necessary, and Northland doesn't have a formal military force either. Northland, however, if the only country to have an air force.
The Dawnstruck Wilds are not a country by any sense of the word and does not have a military either.
