Voidcrafts

Voidcraft is a multipurpose and small in size combat unit, used en masse both in attack and defense. They are abysmal in size when compared to other space ships, which makes them hard to hit especially together with evasive maneuvres, and decoys, with even lasers having their own share of problems. After all, while they can shoot with lightspeed, their targeting systems aren't nearly as fast, not to mention fighters having small shield generators. This makes fighters capable of coming to the smallest possible distance - even few meters - especially to line ships, whose weaponry is focused mainly on obliterating big targets millions of kilometers away. Even then they are generally incapable of piercing through the ships armours, but they can decimates its outer equipment, with every artillery tower or missile launcher lowering their firepower (or defense, maneuvrability and so on) which also lowers their chance of survival during artillery duel.   They have several possible tactics, including the already described assault on ships, bombing run (with fighters flying through enemy formations with highest possible speed, launching as big payload as possible, causing relatively small damage while lowering chances of being decimated), sweep movement targeted at decimating enemy fighters coverage by flying through them and firing at them midflight, and so on. Not to mention old and good reconaissance dedicated to finding out enemy ships configurations.   They are of course countermeasures, for example using escort ships and his own fighters. Sent to intercept before enemies reach the distance that allow to launch tactical nukes without being intercepted by AVD. After which an attack while using on-board artillery weaponry as a second wave of assault, with both waves capable of weakening the particle shields.   Fighters tend to be manned. Manning fighters causes unnecessary loses and (even with neural interface, using computer to make too difficult and fast things automated, and so on) weakens them. However, the fear of completely uncontrolled weaponry is still strong, and besides with improvements they are capable of reacting fast enough to properly do even dogfight against other fighters and AV Defense.
 

Variants

Voidcraft - Classic voidcraft. Up to 200 tonnes of tonnage (plus weaponry and ammunition, that sometimes outweigh the voidcraft itself). Crew - single pilot. Used by pretty much every nation capable of sending any forces into space, since they can be produced cheeply and then used to deal damage to even much stronger enemy forces.   Heavy Voidcraft - Variant of voidcrafts approximately twice as big as typical voidcrafts (400 tonnes +weaponry and ammunition), normally crewed by two people (pilot and weapons operator). Not every fleet uses them, most focuses on typical voidcrafts. Slightly easier to hit but capable of surviving even few direct hits from laser cannons and light MAWs used as AV Defense.  

Configuration

Interceptor Voidcraft - Voidcraft in weapon configuration created with destroying corvettes and voidcrafts in mind, with very sensitive sensors, excellent radars and targeting systems, and a lot of conventional rockets, supported with a single light MAW or laser. Thus they can decimate their enemies by waves of rockets, after which they come closer to use their other weapon to finish what was left.   Escort Voidcraft - Voidcraft in a configuration dedicated to supporting their own ships in terms of AV Defense. They can carry and launch antirockets and multiple laser cannons (smaller than in Interceptor configuration) to decimate incoming missiles. Generaly used to defend from enemy that has an overwhelming ammount of missile silos and launchers. Their main problem is that they can at best carry 5-6 antirockets, after which they can only use lasers, which are... at best moderate in terms of efficiency.   Bomber Voidcraft - Voidcraft in a configuration dedicated to attacking hostile ships (normally up to light cruisers). Decked with LSK missile launchers with tactical nuclear warheads up to 4-5 kilotonnes. That tend to be capable of launching only a single missile per launcher before returning to resupply. They attack their target en masse, hoping to overwhelm its AV Defense by sheer numbers of launched rockets, with a single one of them enough to destroy a frigate or damage a destroyer.   Torpedo Voidcraft - Voidcraft in a configuration dedicated to assaulting enemy ships from light cruiser up. Normally armed with a single Ship Killer Missile, capable of severely damaging every cruiser with its 20-50 kiloton nuclear warheads (or some other type of warheads). Their assault tends to be coordinated with launches from ship-based silos to overwhelm AV Defense and achieve at least few hits.
