Blightlord

Blightlords are a tragic perversion of the Eldar, the ancient guardians of nature. Unlike the corrupted Blights, which result from the fall of the Eladrin, Blightlords are not created by moral failings or deliberate choices. Instead, they are Eldar that succumb to the insidious sickness spread by the Blights themselves. Once vibrant and life-giving, these massive trees become diseased colossi, perpetuating the devastation of the groves they once nurtured.

The Fall into Sickness

Blightlords emerge when an Eldar is exposed to prolonged contamination from Blights. The sickness spreads through their roots, twisting their bark into cracked, sickly patterns and causing their leaves to wither into jagged, venomous shapes. This transformation robs the Eldar of their nurturing instincts and their capacity for connection with the natural world. Where an Eldar would bud an Eladrin to protect its grove, the Blightlord instead buds Blights, producing twisted plant-humanoids that perpetuate its destructive influence.

Rooted in Devastation

Blightlords are massive and imposing, even compared to healthy Eldar. When a Blightlord decides on a location, they root themselves, spreading their sickness deep into the soil, infecting nearby plants and making animals sick or aggressive. This contamination alters the ecosystem, turning once-thriving forests into zones of decay and hostility.

As they root, Blightlords release a wafting, poisonous aura from their branches, which spreads spores and sickness to creatures and plants alike. This aura creates a zone of toxic decay that is almost impossible for unprotected creatures to endure. The area surrounding a Blightlord becomes a nexus of Blight infection.

Eladrin are tasked with regularly seeking out and destroying Blightlords to protect their groves and forests. These missions are perilous, as disturbing a rooted Blightlord can lead to violent retaliation, and its death often triggers a catastrophic release of its poisonous essence.

Brutish Defenders of Decay

While rooted, a Blightlord is an unrelenting source of sickness, but if disturbed, it can unroot itself and become a monstrous force of destruction. These afflicted giants rely on brute strength, using their massive limbs as battering rams against enemies or obstacles. Their roots can lash out like tentacles, grappling and smashing foes, while their poisonous aura intensifies in combat, choking and weakening nearby creatures.

Unlike the deliberate defense of healthy Eldar, Blightlords lash out instinctively, driven by pain and malice. Their attacks are devastating and intended to kill, rather than merely serve the defense of the grove as their former selves.

The Budding of Blights

Unlike the symbiotic bond between Eldar and Eladrin, there is no apparent relationship between the Blightlord and its Blights. The Blights seem to sprout from the Blightlord as a purely parasitic response, and the Blightlord does not display any attachment or guidance toward them. The relationship is one of convenience for the sickness, not one of kinship
