As a young gnoll, Ulneth was a part of a tribe living in the harsh desert of Scorchburn. She was a strong little pup, able to stand on her own from a young age. Though unlike many of her kin, she found joy in learning and managed to teach herself how to read and speak common. When returning from a hunting trip, she and a party of her peers found a storm had brewed in and at its core a young blue dragon was ravaging their village. Rushing to save her kin, Ulneth jumped before a group of young pups to take a blast of lightning.

However, the lightning that raged toward Ulneth and the pups never made its contacted point. When Ulneth opened her eyes to see what had happened, they fell upon a large wolf that stood before them, lightning cackling over its form. Ulneth told the pups to run as she stood and walked up beside the wolf's side. The mighty deity of lightning, Raiju, launched forward with Ulneth at his side, the two taking down the young dragon, saving the remaining villagers from death. After seeing the young girl's fighting spirit, Raiju asked why the girl acted so selflessly. Her response spoke to the deity and he asked if she would help him protect those unable to protect themselves. She agreed and he granded her mediumship.
