Freideric Vassier

Second King of Audemar Freideric Vassier

"I will honor my father's legacy and defend my people. Whatever it takes."

The Second King

Groomed from birth to inherit the throne, Freideric's chance to prove himself came upon the legendary Alart's death. Although determined to honor his father's memory, Freideric also recognized that his first priority was to protect his people. He put an end to Alart's conquests into the mountains, choosing instead to focus on fostering strength and prosperity within Audemar's existing borders.   Even Alart's most staunch supporters cannot deny that his son's reign has - thus far - been one of success. Under Freideric's guidance agriculture, art, education, and trade have prospered. Although controversial at the time, Freideric's alliance with the metropolis of Redstone has been a fruitful one, providing some small openings in Audemar's borders to the outside world. Nevertheless still vigilant, Freideric has not allowed Audemar's military might to go lax but rather has continued to develop and expand the training practices and regulations for both the standing army and the King's Knights alike. Additionally, although he has rejected his father's policies of total isolation and partially opened the borders of Audemar to trade and cultural exchange, all trade, immigration, and other outside influences are strictly regulated and controlled.

A Strong Throne Does Not Protect From Personal Loss

Although Freideric's reign is an undeniable success, his personal life has been visited by much more tragedy.   Freideric made no complaint in following his father's wishes to marry the Lady Avalona, handpicked by Alart from the best and oldest noble families of the region. Avalona was beautiful, and kind, and although the royal couple never found true love they did develop a deep respect and intimate friendship; a stroke of unusual luck in an arranged marriage. But all was not well, despite the couple's best efforts - first years, then decades passed and Avalona failed to produce an heir. Years without conceiving at all, broken up by a handful of tragic miscarriages, and in time all the aristocracy began to fear that their beloved Queen would prove barren. Until at long last, the Prince was born.   Elyot was the jewel of Freideric's kingdom, and more importantly of his parents' hearts. But before Elyot's eight birthday, true tragedy would strike as Avalona at last succumb to years of sickness and slow decline. The Kingdom mourned, and so did Freideric. Yet, he was given a chance he had never had before - the chance to find true love. And so he did, with the Lady Maleta, beautiful and kind like her predecessor, but with a less prestigious pedigree.   Although the Court muttered and gossiped about everything from Maleta's genealogy, to the quickness of Freideric's remarriage after Avalona's death, and to the unusually short timespan between the marriage and the birth of their first daughter; none dared actually say anything to the King's face. Lilian, and her younger sister Elissa who joined the family a few years later, presented in public exactly as proper princesses should; and with Elyot, the Great Hope of Audemar, proving himself more and more every day, the Court maintained their peace.   In privacy, the royal family was far from perfect. But Freideric's love and respect for his new wife caused him to indulge her strong willed nature, and he prized his daughters as much as his son - at least, when it came to his love, if not to political respect and influence. And although Maleta could never replace Elyot's mother in his heart, she was smart enough not to try; rather, she presented herself as a friend and confidant, opening her heart to the hurting young boy and treating him as her own with expecting any reciprocation.   Perhaps happiness had come at last to Freideric's personal life, to balance and match the success of his reign. That is, until The Attack shattered both.
