Garth admired his new shield that gleamed in the sunlight shine off the surface. This was his first shield and he swung it around getting used to the balance of it on his arm. Smiling he finally sat down in the shade under a tree and pulled out a small bottle from his backpack. Reaching into his pouch for a rag, he pours some contents of the bottle into it and begins to rub it on the surface of his new shield. As instructed he would have to make sure his shield stay polished weekly and cleaned up after each use, he didn't want it to rust as he just spent good money on it.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Vectron closely resembles iron only a bit more natural silverish.

History & Usage

History

Vectron alloy was a metal develop to counter the wear that natural Vectrium experienced. Pure vectrium while as strong as iron but unlike iron, any damage done to it significantly weakened it after repair. Vectrium would also rust much quicker than regular iron and required more active upkeeping by the owner. While more care is still required for an item made of vectron, it will not weaken like vectrium if damaged and can be repaired more easily.

Discovery

Experimentation by many blacksmiths eventually found that a mix of seventy percent Vectrium and thirty percent iron would give the vectrium basically the same quality as iron for a cheaper rate.

Everyday use

Vectron is now commonly used in place of iron for many usually craft weapons, armor, tools, etc. Freeing up pure iron to be used for important applications or for those who wish to spend a bit extra money on their wares.

Industrial Use

Vectron has very little use industrially being as it still rusts more easily than iron and its large industrial application iron is still the better choice.

Reusability & Recycling

The different melting temperatures of both metals within the alloy allow an item made of vectron to be easily recycled. At the lower temperature, the vectrium can be freed from the iron and separated allow reuse of both the vectrium and iron the item was made from.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Vectron is as readily available as iron is at the market. It can usually be purchased from any blacksmith in small quantities or from a foundry for larger orders.
