Xianyun

As seen in
The Xianyun are a Eurasian people who have historically inhabited the east and north Great Steppes, north of the eastern half of Zhongguo. There was a certain amount of genetic mixture with the tribes from farther west, but overall they remained primarily genetically part of the Ancient Northeast Asian (ANA) peoples.

History

After the formation of The Great Rift sent people streaming north and east, away from its environs, the Xianyun found themselves in conflict with the Zhou Dynasty, as both peoples tried to cope with the influx of refugees from the regions around what is now Dian Province and Shu Province. There were also other refugees fleeing from the first set of refugees; in fact, the years 10-500 LYC saw a great deal of armed migration in the areas of the Great Steppes and Zhongguo.   While the Xianyun had some advantages - mounted archers, for the most part - cultivation was already being practiced in the time of the Zhou Dynasty, and the abilities of their cultivators gave the Zhou military too great an advantage for the Xianyun's own innovations to overcome. The Zhou managed to push the Xianyun back towards the territory of the Xituanshan, which caused them to have to fight on two fronts.   The fighting finally stopped in 693 LYC, when the Xianyun found themselves completely overwhelmed by the Zhou and unable to keep up their own army. They sued for peace, and became a client state under the Zhou Dynasty, and were permitted to return to the land that had been theirs - although they were no longer the ones who ruled that land.
