To the Stormcastle in the Sky

"Sain, come here."   The small boy began to walk just as light flashed through the cracks by the door and thunder shook the entire house. The boy fell over and quiet sobbing could be heard through the pitter-patter of rain on the roof.   The mother got up and picked up her son. She sat with him in her lap and gave him the little dog doll she had been working on. The crying subsided and was replaced with content.   "That dog-"   "Agri!" the boy chimed in.   "Agri," the mother continued, "will keep you safe but only if you stay inside during storms."   The boy gestured in understanding.   "If you go out in the storm, he will find you and steal you away."   "Who?"   "The Storm Warden. Beware him, his rows of teeth, and the lightning wreath."   Sain held the toy tight to his chest and closed his eyes while his mother imitated the Warden.
"Stop running around, it is time to eat. Go get your father."   "Where is he?"   "He said he would be working the edgeward field."   Sain reached up to the latch on the door and with a clunk headed out into the unending light. It was warm but for when the autumn wind blew.   The walk was not far but for someone young as Sain it took some time. As he walked his view was obscured by the wheat that was taller than him. He ran his hand through as he walked by and listened to the sound the windy fields made.   "Father!" Sain yells when he finally comes into sight. "Mom says it is time to eat."   "Sain, could you give me a hand carrying this stuff back?" he said holding out a shovel.   "Sure."   His father picked up a basket of vegetables and they set off. The shovel was taller than Sain and the wind kept catching it making Sain do a little dance to keep it on his shoulder. His father thought this was very cute.   "We should hurry, I see a storm reaching over us carried on the fall wind."
