Shining Rock

"We have been able to see it on and off for several cycles now and have decided to investigate. The last group of people we talked to called it the Deep Light.
It is a small island made of metal ores. It reflects different colours on different parts of its surface. It is surely a valuable resource. Enough nails for an eternity or enough swords to fight a thousand wars. I fear what would happen if the wrong group got their hands on this.
I speculate that it once served as a navigational aid. It may have floated higher and could explain the presence of people on various islands in the region. People drawn here by the radiant colours. I hope to do further research is done into the stories of these peoples to see if this is a cultural relic. It is possible it is the focus of worship or seen as a gift of a deity.
I suggest that no one goes near. Shining Rock, as the crew calls it, is close to the Floor and attracts lightning strikes with astounding frequency. We dared approach and Arsi was nearly killed by one such bolt. Mining would certainly lead to death."

Purpose / Function

It is believed that Shining Rock once much higher in the sky was used for inter-island navigation by early humans.
The people's living on islands in the region have a variety of faiths and rituals that involve the Shining Rock.

History

This ball of metal was once likely surrounded by stone which has since been worn away by the elements.
The faiths of nearby people's indicate that there was once a similar metal island higher in the sky. Some faiths say that it is lower now due to displeasure from the gods. Others say there were two in the past.
