Ice Chopper

Ice-breaking tool.

Nawar's body ached. His arms and his back were ready to give up but he lifted the heavy tool another time and thrust it into the ice. He did it again and again. Eventually the ice was gone and the bridge safe to cross. Proud of his work he walked back toward his village.

Cultural Significance

The ice chopper is given no special significance in most areas despite the tool being used to remove dangerous ice from areas of travel. This is likely because of the large amount of labor required to remove the ice.

Manufacturing process

The wide blade, designed to break the ice and then to shove it aside, is forged from metal and then attached to a wooden shaft. All the parts of the tool must be strong because of the strain it will take from being slammed against ice.
