Great Dam of Darapur

The dam is more than just an amazing feat of engineering. It is the life of the region. Without it the Harani would run off the edge. With it we have a lake, fish, and water for the dry season.

Purpose / Function

The Great Dam was constructed by the people of Darapur to hold water on the river Harani during the dry season.

Alterations

The original dam was built further upriver and was made of wood. Later, the current stone dam was constructed at the current location.

Architecture

The Great Dam is built of white stone transported from the mountain at the mouth of the river.
