Gort Species in Linebound | World Anvil

Gort

Stubborn forest-runner.

"Kids, today we are going into the forest. If you get lost and no one answers your call, don't panic. Search for a path of flowers and follow it. Eventually, it will bring you to the river, then follow the flow of the river back into the village. Just remember that if you hear something coming down the path, get off of the flower trail. Gorts aren't aggressive but they can be dangerous."

To Be Called Gort

The name gort comes from the sound the creature makes; it is not considered a nice sound. The word gort is often used as an insult toward someones appearance; gorts have wiry hair, warts, and a snout that is flat on the front - they are not given the same degree of respect that other four-legged mammals usually receive.   Being called a gort can also mean one is being called stubborn and even unwilling to hear others out. Even though gorts are social animals when two meet travelling in opposite directions down a gort run they will collide head-on.

Gorts and the Flower Trail

It is almost amusing how such an unsightly creature is responsible for something so beautiful.
— Takalia, Travels in Grara
The long wiry hairs of a gort collect pollen from flowers on the side of the gort run and shed it on others. This pollinates the flowers and for some species is the only method of pollination they rely on. As the season progresses, the gorts scatter the seeds of the flowers as they run along their trails. This leads to gort runs being trails of flowers through the woods.
