Garashtan
Sustainable lumber town.
"Chop the wood and fell the tree,
drag them down, and strip them fast.
Pull them to the mill with glee,
saw the planks and make them last.
Work 'till we're tired then we're free,
drink from the cup 'till we've passed."
-Traditional lumberjack song
Founding and Growth
Garashtan was founded during the Time of Rebuilding to supply lumber for the growing city of Burim. The first family to move to the area was the Garash family. When the small lumber village became a town and moved to elect a mayor, a Garash was selected. Since then, every leader of the town has been a member of the Garash family.
Early in the history of the town, the leaders recognized that the town would only last as long as the lumber so they came up with a plan; each tree cut down would be another tree planted and only trees of a certain size could be cut down. The minimum tree size is altered once a year at the beginning of spring and enforced with fines for each tree culled below the threshold. As the town began to grow and its industry became increasinly sought-after, the rule for planting trees was changed to be two planted for every felled.
drag them down, and strip them fast.
Pull them to the mill with glee,
saw the planks and make them last.
Work 'till we're tired then we're free,
drink from the cup 'till we've passed."
