Curse of the Howling Mountains

Summary

Around The City of Silver Mount dwarves speak in hushed whispers when discussing that lay beyond the black gate. The large black iron door that sits in the back of the cavern, in which the city sits, is said to be a doorway to a haunted land. The Silverback Mountains have been labeled as a Vaddun'ro by the local ruling family, and as such travel into and across the mountains have been forbidden.   Rumors of howling coming from over the mountains have been reported by merchants passing by the mountains at night. Guards of the Black Gate have also been reporting going stir crazy over hearing hushed whispers and scratching from the other side of the metal barrier. Many explorers that have attempted to venture over the mountains have failed to return, and those that have tell tales of being chased from the mountain range by shadows before even reaching the other side.   The prevailing theory is that long ago dwarves of Hundurh mined deep releasing a dark force into the mountain range as the only of the old mining tunnels of the city that is collapsed is tunnel three which leads south, deep into the mountain range. Many have reported that the same scratching and howling can be heard coming form the collapsed tunnel three.

Spread

This myth is well known among the people of Hundurh and spreads to common knowledge among all dwarves in Xirith.

In Art

Many dwarvern painting of Hundurh or the surround mountain range will always include spirits or shadows painted in the background to represent its haunted nature, and the mountains will be painted black to represent it at Vaddun'ro. Commonly the arcane glyphs used to cast Remove Curse will be etched into the paint with the hope of preventing the painting from becoming haunted.
